Clamp to clamp, no.5 removes. Fabricate a X pipe to replace the centre muffler. Custom 2 shorter resonator on 2.5in ss pipe. The original no.5 mid section. X pipe replacing the centre muffler. Custom 2 resonator.
Well done job! I did my exhaust the other day. I didn’t want to cut my mid section, so I got the specialist to fabricate the whole mid section. I removed the centre muffler and replaced it with a X pipe, and custom 2 resonator in. Achieved higher pitch at high rev like the FTYPE v6, I’ll come back with the video clip to share. Here’s some photo of it.
Thanks all for the ideas. Here's what I did, I removed the whole midsection (As i didn't want to cut the original), replaced with an Xpipe and 2 custom resonator. Sounds awesome with the higher pitch sound. ill provide video shortly.
Custom Resonator Custom Xpipe Original Mid section no.5 Mid Section no.5 Replaced center muffler with Xpipe, custom 2 resonator so i dont have to cut my orignal mid section.
Alphakinase is the man. Today I spent $210.94 u.s.d for reso delete. I recently just sold my 2016 ftype v-6 s. This sound is real darn close. What a bang for the buck!
I want to thank everyone for the good advice here. I removed the resonators (kept middle muffler) with Velocity AP sport exhaust and pops and crackles tune, it sounds fking AMAZING! The shop guy couldn't believe it. (FPace)
This video does not do justice since it's a cell video. I like the sound, gargles, etc, but it needs to be louder. Highway driving is LOUD, but local driving is too quiet, needs to get more growl. Velocity AP's new version of their sport exhaust is way too restrictive. Barely any difference with their Touring (I owned both). It also at times sounds too "airy" if that makes any sense. Like blowing air through a straw. By the way it's tune'd (VAP).
VAP says the high-flow cats sound 'badass' -- I'm attempting to have the high-flow cats from VAP installed on as I type this, although there seems to be a mismatch somewhere. I'll give more detail on that at some point in the future and ring back in on the sound change.
I also haven't quite isolated what led to my OEM cats failing just yet, but I did have pops/gurgles turned on for months and took everything (tune, pulley, cable, springs, resonator delete) to a drag strip a few months back before they failed (Little river dragway vid:
Did you remove the center muffler? I read somewhere that the loss of back pressure might affect the cats. That's why I'm hesitant to go that way. But what do I know :-) Keep us posted.
I didn't remove the center muffler -- on the exhaust I only took out the resonators. I ill ring back in on my entire experience. I'm super hesitant to go back to pops/gurgles after this is all done as this has been a huge pain and I've been limping along for a month now.
Dealer rejected the cats as warranty work (surprise)... I should post a picture of the paragraph on the service printout -- "Found non OEM calibration in PCM with after market exhaust and lowered vehicle suspension...." I'm hoping the current shop + VAP are going to help get me out of this mess.
I had the pops and crackles for over a year now with no issues. I actually helped Chris test several versions of it. I really hope this gets solved soon. Makes me doubt doing the pulley now and the modified tune for it. We definitively need to hear the outcome and how it was solved. I'm tempted to switch to the original tune now after hearing this. Cats should not go bad this early.
I do use Jaguar's recommended fuel system cleaner periodically. Not sure if that helps anything.
Does doing the Center Resonator Delete throw any codes? Are you able to pass a state emissions test with Resonator delete? What about Factory warrany any problems with the dealers? Thank you
Resonator delete - good mode if you DO NOT have a pops and crackles tune. This will make it more raspy, but the pops will be more like cooking pan bang than gunshot. Good mod if you don't have a tune or if you have just a regular tune with no sound modification.
Do not remove the mid muffler, even if you add resonators back. Trust me, it sounds horrible. It'll make you F-Pace jealous of your lawn mower. If you go via X-Pipe make sure you use a shop that does this all the time. I took it to a shop that made a custom X-Pipe which caused flow restriction. My tuner recommends a shop that does mandrel bending, this is not very common in my area (north Jersey).
Cutting out resonators will not throw a code, there are no sensors after the cats.
I don't see why the dealer would care about any work done after CATS, but some dealerships like mine are a pain in the *** to deal with.
I ended up putting everything back and keeping VAP sport exhaust, at least for now.
I joined this forum due to OPs post. Can confirm it is worth every penny. I can’t stop smiling. Every tunnel = windows down. For those who said they can’t tell the difference, it’s entirely the video because in person is amazing. I have been able to get mine to crackle and pop but you need to get creative with the loud pedal. Thanks OP! Changed my experience with the car.
Sorry for reviving an old thread but I also felt obligated to thank the OP for making this thread. I spent $200 CAD today to have this done (just resonators deleted) and it made a massive difference in volume and rasp/growl. Me and a friend who also heard it, figure it is about 2X as loud as stock under load. Can confirm it turns heads and results in difficulty not getting on it from every stop. Thank you alphakinase!
Glad you posted. I concur change is/was terrific. I have some very serious german car guys that cannot get over how excellent the XE sounds
with the res-delete.
I called my local Jaguar service center and they basically told me if I removed the resonators they will not cover my O2 sensors or catalytic converters under warranty. I was not happy. So I'll have to wait until my warranty expires.
