CEL and code P054A

So...
Before Thanksgiving, I started the car at work, then goofed around on my phone before setting off. Noticed the car idled a bit rough and nearly stalled. CEL light came on. I drove away, and the car drove fine.
Drove 900 miles to MI the next day. Figured the CEL would go out, but it didn’t. Autozone read the code as P054A, which is related to cold-start camshaft timing position. I found a document online related to a Variable Valve Timing solenoid, which is in my Dropbox, linked below.

Made an appt at my disliked local dealer, but the earliest offered was end of Jan, without a loaner! I’m driving back to MI again for Xmas (another 2000 miles). My sense is that this isn’t a damaging condition - car has run fine, gas mileage has been normal, cold starts have been OK.
Anyone have a sense if this is something to worry about? Love the car otherwise.

Dave,
In the interim, I wouldn't worry about it. The malfunction does not threaten the engine, but will adversely affect ease of cold weather starting and will negatively impact fuel efficiency and maximum power output. The light could be a permanent code thrown as a result of a single or intermittent failure occurrence. Try clearing the code with a scanner if the light bothers you, but opt for the solenoid replacement at the end of January even if the light stays off.

A code sets because of an out-of-range signal. Often it turns out to be nothing more serious than that rather than the result of component failure. As suggested, now you KNOW the code, clear it. The worst that can happen is that it resets but you could get an early Christmas present finding it stays cleared.
Running an SDD diagnostics session on most Jaguars turns up a list of codes which the owner is unaware of unless they are the subset defined to illuminate the MIL.
