Oil change cost

Oil change cost
Simple question.
I am the new owner of a Jaguar XE R-Sport 25T. I just made my appointment for the first oil change. The dealer tells me it costs between $ 400 and $ 500 plus tax for the oil change only. $ 250 in parts and $ 200 in labor. Is it really that price (in Canada)? I think it's very expensive?
Thanks'

Well, last Thursday I had my Merc SLK in the local garage who maintain my cars, and on the invoice is 6.5 litres of 5W30 fully synthetic oil @£8. 50 giving a total of £64.60. Converted to $Can this is $C 93.5
Oil filter £12 = £C 20,54
Oil disposal charge £2 = $C 3.43
So parts for my SLK came to $C 117.47 without tax
Labour charge for the service/oil change came to one hour @ £60 = 102.69
Once our VAT of 20% is added on the final bill for the service was £154,32 = $C 264.12
Looking at the last bill I paid at the local Jaguar main agent a mile down the road from me, I see the following: -
Oil Filter - £11.59
Oil Shell AJ-L 0W30 - £14.99 a litre
Oil drain plus replace £4.52
The moral of this tale is take the car to an independent garage for oil changes ! However I took out a service plan last year, so every month I pay a small sum, rather than one big whallop to the wallet every 2 years.

I have only had an oil change as part of an annual service.
However, on my last bill, the cost for parts was:
6 litres Castrol Edge oil 0W20 $72.00
Plug $20.00
Filter $50.00
So $142.00 plus tax for parts
This was at a very upmarket dealer who also sells new Rolls Royces - so not exactly shy about charging.
Unless your car is under warranty, I would check elsewhere at a decent garage using good parts. A jaguar oil change is no different from any car really, (but I wouldn't take it to Jiffylube tho!)
Even under warranty, you can take the car elsewhere for service, but you risk losing a dealer willing to be on your side if a claim arises.
Good luck

Just do the oil change yourself. Use only JLR approved engine oil 0W-20. Buy a MityVac oil extractor and a 65mm oil filter wrench with 14 flutes. It is really easy.
Here is a video of a guy changing oil on his F-Pace 2.0. If this he can do an change oil wearing a semi attire formal shirt, you can do it.yourself. If you are in doubt, just ask questions and I or some of the members here will help you.

I think so, but read your agreement carefully, because when I bought my XE in Jan 2019 I took out a service plan, although it wasn't for 5 years, but it could have been. Service plans are quite common nowadays and by paying monthly, it avoids sudden big bills. Of course, overall, it would be cheaper to go to an independent, and I expect my XE will join my other cars at my local independent "jobbing" garage eventually. They are very competent, although clearly their workshops and customer reception areas are not luxurious !

$C400-500 is absurd for just an oil change, and the dealership is gouging you - or trying to.
Either use an independent or, as many have suggested, do it yourself. The Ingenium engines are particularly easy because the oil filter is at the top of the engine and can be removed and a new one put in without any need to get under the car, or indeed spill any oil.
Combine this with a "sucker" to remove the old oil via the dipstick tube and you avoid the need for any getting under the car at all, or removing the undertray.
Total time to do the oil and filter change this way will be about 30 minutes at most.
I suspect many Jaguar dealerships use the "sucker" method for getting the oil out, but still charge for a new sump plug even though they don't touch this.
