First reviews are good!
Although some seem to get hung up on the touchscreen, it's a car, not an iphone...
Disappointed that the six-speed manual isn't being offered with the V6S (yet)
And open diff? Really Jag? Have we not been through this a hundred times before? At least make it a cost option...

2017 Jaguar XE
One more review. I haven't read a bad review yet! I'm impressed!
Interesting that they say that the reason it's not coming to the US for another year is because they want AWD models to be available at launch to help sales in colder climates.

On the fence
I really need a test drive now. I'm pretty stoked about the XE (particularly the S) with AWD but I'm still bitten by the test drive of the F-Type R a few months ago. Damn that car is fast and the S even impressed me. Just bought the wife a Buick Verano Turbo which she loves and is actually a pretty decent compact luxury car.
Now do I get the coupe or wait for the XE. I NEVER buy cars in their first MY so my wait for an XE is going to be a while. Maybe get an S coupe or vert for two years then trade for a loaded XE S AWD. Granted, with the F-Type being so good I may not want to give it up. It's good to have win-win choices every once and a while. I might have to break a golden rule of mine and get the XE S now just because it's all new not only for Jaguar but for the sports sedan market.

Manual with the V6 will come down the track i'm sure....
Have a look at how Jaguar trickle-feeds out the models and options. Let's take the F-Type as an example.
First it was the convertible only, and only the V6's and the V8S with reduced power.
Then later came the coupe, and the V8 R with more power.
Then later still came the AWD, and the manual transmission.
Still to come is the R-S (or SVR) big-banger version.
They won't give out every version of the XE at the launch, each year or so comes a new model, more power, new options, keeps it fresh...

Everything I've read says we will, but only on the 2.0L engines. Though I would imagine if you can get the stick on the F-Type there shouldn't be a problem fitting the S with it. However the S will be a lower volume car so maybe they don't see justification in offering a stick for it.

Plenty of UK reviews out now also ( although driving a LHD car on the wrong side of the road is Spain ..has little or nothing to do with driving RHD in UK ??..)
Most testers likes it . but comments such as " I thought it was an XF from the front " " looking at the rear , it could n be anything " , " boot ( trunk ) space limited ", " drivers cockpit space a bit tight & cosy .
My own concern is that the styling is now 7 yrs out of date ( XF copy ) . Jag had the chance to click it up a couple of notches , but played it way too safe .
However nothing wrong with the build quality & engineering . As for touch screens , quite possible the most dangerous development in cars over the last 10 tyrs . Nothing like knocking a small child down whilst trying to work out how to turn the wipers on .Keep you eyes on the road !!!

They are calling the cabin cosy. What are you expecting from a midsize car? If you are expecting the room of the XF, well, you are not going to get it with the XE. I am sure the car has plenty of room (from what I saw at the Feel XE event). But, by no means is it going to be XF or XJ room. You can't have the best of both worlds with out some new technology being created that allows you to cram 2 things into the same space.
Besides, it was Jaguar's idea to not make the XE exactly like the XF/XJ. They wanted it to be its own character in the line up. Sure, it shares a lot of styling cues from the XF/XJ, but all manufacturers are doing this sort of thing today as it the way that they see how we want things.

Consistently good reviews...
Consistently good reviews are a very good sign.
While the styling is not-so-new after 7 years on the XF, it definitely looks good - except for the generic rear end - which at least isn't offensive - just plain-Jane. They certainly could have done better. Then again, Jaguar's tradition is, well, Tradition. Unlike Datsun they don't come out with ghastly new designs every other year - so it sort of makes sense.
I still love my X-Type, and my XJR. I want to crossbreed them - and it sounds like the supercharged V6 with 340-360hp and AWD just about does that.
Cool.
