Default Sill, (rocker) cover protection with vinyl wrap

My XE has suffered from gravel rash on the sill covers at the rear where they curves to meet the wheel arch, (sills = rockers in the USA as I understand it). I have flatted down the damage and repainted, and managed to buy a pair of shaped vinyls on the internet to cover this vulnerable spot for the future. However, the instructions say I have to wait three weeks for the thinners in the paint to evaporate before attaching them. So to avoid damage, I would have to leave the car on the driveway out of use for three weeks which will be difficult albeit not impossible.
Has anybody applied similar covers and not waited as long as this ? I would have thought a week would be long enough now we're getting warmer weather.
