Default South Florida Jag Mechanic (installed crank pulley today)

After purchasing the tune and crank pulley from Velocity AP, i started looking for a Jag mechanic in South Florida (Fort Lauderdale/ Miami area). I ended up getting it installed today by Ron at Garic Auto (Hollywood, FL)

From the forums and online searches this my list of potential mechanics in case anyone needs the same info. I called each shop to see if they did performance upgrades, and if so how much to install the crank pulley on my 2017 XE.
Doug’s (Gables Cats)
  • Gables cats no longer in business but Doug still does some work on Jags
  • said $680 for install
Prestige Auto Tech
  • only maintenance and repairs
Prestigious Euro Cars
  • no answer
Jag Repairs (Pompano – Mitch)
  • has done XK but not XE. Said to come by and he’ll check. $150 hour usually 2 hour job
Jaguar Doctor
  • doesn’t work on models past 2010
Garic Auto Center (formerly TelAviv Texaco)
  • found his info from here, jagforums
  • Talked to Ron
  • He’s done pulleys for many of the 3.0 and 5.0 Ranges just not XE (til mine)
  • Quoted me $100-$150
  • Very knowledgeable about AJ engines. Asked if coolant hose has had issue and warned me about water pump (had both of mine fixed under CPO warranty) so this immediately made me confident he was the guy
Long story short, Ron is the man! smoothest experience iv ever had for a performance upgrade on a car. dropped car off at 9:15 (engine hot as hell) and the pulley was fitted by 12:00, so he definitely works fast. Charged $150 just like he said and nothing more. I just got my only free service done at the dealer i bought the car at, but i will definitely be going to Ron for any future service or repairs. Super nice and cool guy. he even offers his own warranty in case your's is up.

Hope this helps any of my local jaguar fam!

Crank pulley install at $150 is a steal! I believe I paid around $350 when I got it done in 2019 here in Texas.

Hope you're enjoying all the extra vroom vroom 😎

Default Exhaust

The exhaust sound the same after the time and crank pulley or did it give it the snap crackle pop exhaust. Not a huge fan of that sound.

I live in Miami so i will definitely head there for the install.

The pops & crackles are requested when purchasing the tune, and VAP can send you a file with and without them enabled if you want to try it out.

The exhaust remains the same for the most part (you can request a higher rev limit with the tune). The crank makes the supercharger spin faster so there's a slight change in that sound.

If you go to Automakers > Jaguars > Shop All Products and filter by "XE" you should see the option for "3.0L V6 Supercharged Jaguar/Land Rover AJ126 ECU Tuning"

It should apply to all AJ126's. I'm sure a call to Stuart will clear up any doubts.

Welcome to the family! People say this time and time again but the pulley and tune does transform the car. I've had mine since Dec 2019 and no issues at all. The number of smiles per gallon skyrocketed.

I was gonna miss the horsepower of my SS, but this package brings the numbers to the same as I'm used to. The torque must be insane.

I think you'll enjoy this much more (sans a manual of course).

that is correct. no change except for slighty more supercharger whine. but even that that is only when you are really pushing it. I didn't enable pops and crackles either but might request it just try it out once or twice. i definitely don't want it on all the time though and iv read its not great for the catalytic converter anyways.

i always read that, and to be honest did not notice much of a difference from stage 1 and 2. i even brought out the dragy to time some 0-60 and 0-100 and my numbers only slight improved (and this is probably only because i just got brand new tires and my old ones were bald). I wonder if my stage 2 tune that was preloaded was messed up, and is the same as stage 1 somehow. does it take time for the ECU to relearn? idk but i do know that it should have been a dramatic difference

gonna reach out to stuart though as iv heard his customer service is great and see why i might not be noticing the gains so much.

Wow. That's discouraging to hear. I was hoping for big gains.

In my case the results were clear. I went from stock (340hp) to Stage 1, then a week later to Stage 2. Dragy testing results (0-60mph, verified, all times including 1ft rollout):

-Stock: 4.89 seconds
-Stage 1: 4.33 seconds
-Stage 2: 4.14 seconds

I am AWD with stock Pirelli P7 All-Season tires. I am planning on getting Michelin PS4s once these go bald and I'll re-test. The VAP TCU tune has allowed me to have more consistent launches as all my best times were in manual mode to hit 7K, and now "S" shifts at 7K post-tune.

With paddles I can now rev past 7K with the TCU tune; once I have some time I will see if I can get even closer to that 4 flat/sub-4.

Outside of 0-60, the torque is much more present throughout the entire rev range, and in "go to jail speeds" (only done in Mexico) the car keeps pulling hard. Stock it just fell flat.

This is, of course, my own personal experience. Butt dyno plus the available Dragy data. I haven't tested 1/4 mile yet. Once I do I can at least compare it to magazine numbers.

I'll have to install and see for myself. I've heard nothing but good things of velocity ap.

i am RWD so 0-60 will definitely be limited by traction. I need to run a few 1/4 mile runs. Iv done 60-120 as well at stage 2 and haven’t beaten my best stage 1 time (not off by far). But I can’t compare those because my best times were in 50 degree weather and it’s 75+ in Florida right now haha. So that always makes a difference. But Idk, even with hot weather I think I should see more gains. I honestly think I accidentally got two stage 1 tunes and my slight gains are more from the pulley and new tires. I shall repost once I hear from stuart and team.

absolutely go for it. The number of people that say the difference is massive far outweighs my experience. And there might be a simple reason for my lack of gains.
