Default Volume control knob (On/OFF button) not backlit?

Just noticed the Audio On/Off button in the Volume knob is not backlit. Is this normal? Seems rather odd, as all other buttons in the cabin are backlit.

Thanks. I searched for "backlit" and "backlight" here and didn't find anything. Googled it just now and found a post from 2015 in a UK forum.

Oh well. Just thought it looked a bit goofy.

I agree, Jaguar made some really weird design decisions with a number of items in this car. Generally it is ok but driving in the night makes it really awkward trying to find this knob by just feeling it out.

I think the F- Pace and Type guys say the same thing. No light.

I wonder if we can add the accent lighting to our US spec XE as we don't have it here?

BTW, did you notice the loops in the dash lights around the start and volume are the same style as the tail lights? Pretty neat if done on purpose.

indeed Bigcat, as to the power knob the Range Rover is the same way and button is unlit. I have the Rover as loaner right now and the system is very similar.

Since there is no "mute" button on the steering wheel, I use the On/Off button for that. A little harder to find at night, while driving on unlit roads, which was when it first caught my eye. Just looks, for a lack of a better term, broken.

One post in the UK forum mentioned it could be to reduce/prevent confusion with the Start/Stop button. If so, I blame the lawyers. Pretty sure the lawyers were involved in the design of the driver-side floor mats (that don't ext behind the pedals.

I forgot to check our XE last night, but the knob actually is lit in my F Type. That must be why the F Type cost so much more...

I don't mind it not lit too much but I wish the wheel volume buttons responded much faster so I wouldn't need to use the very far reach knob.

I used the wheel heel buttons to reach 0 but that's as far as it goes, it doesn't shut the power off which I think someone mentioned.

Yeah, I would've definitely preferred it if a long press of that volume increase/decrease would speed up the process a bit more like it does on a tv remote. I would've liked to see something on the steering wheel like there is in the S550 where it's a "roller" button where you roll up and down for increase/decrease and press down for on/off.

That same roller knob is on the new Acura TLX and it works great. I agree totally!

Holding our our volume buttons make it react slower than a few presses, so useless.

100% agree. While a roller might not be possible due to a potential MB patent violation, but long press functionality IMHO is possible with just a simple software update.

So let's cross our finger and hope they will eventually brainstorm into it

actually the roller was on the my XFs and my XKR and they got rid of it with the F Type steering wheel, so I wouldnt be holding my breath for a comeback. To tell you the truth, I thought it was a bit old fashioned and prefer the new setup.

That said, in the F Type the control knob is right next to the shift level so it is nothing to use it, and in our XE the volume is closest to the driver and the stop/start on the other side.
