Default Wireless phone charger - DIY

I finally was able to put in a wireless phone charger I had gotten as a gift a while ago. This is my DIY.
The charger I have can be found at:https://www.carqiwireless.com/collec...pace-2015-2018

I like this kit in that it has a long power wire that just “T”s into one of the 12v sockets at the rear of the console. It would be much easier if the XE had a 12v socket in the front of the console (like a cigarette lighter). The kit:

Not shown is a plastic cover that goes above the charger to give additional clearance as the charger pad is a bit thicker.

The whole project took about 2 or so hours. My recommendation is to not and rush it as you might break something. The pictures below are the order I followed. I did use an interior trim tool to keep from scratching anything. You need to follow this order as the console side has slots or tabs that go into the rear and lower dash covers. First remove the lower dash cover:

Then the original pad. These snap out easily...

I compared the bottom of the new charger with the old pad to assure fitment.

I then went to the rear of the console and pulled the cover

This exposes the 12v socket connectors the kit gets power from

Next is the console side (passenger)

When removing the side you need to take your time. There are many tabs and the seat is in the way. I did find myself alternately putting the seat forward and back, and reclining and not, often. When it is free, you need to tilt the rear of the console side up as there is a tab at the front that you must free it from.

Now I connected the power to the rear 12v socket. BE SURE to route the wire inside the rear of the console and then out the side or else you will not be able to reinstall the rear cover.

I snaked the cable along the larger cable on the side of the console and through an opening into the middle of where the original pad was. Once in, take the time to push the wire into the relief in the console. If you don’t the charging pad will not snap in.

Now you are ready to put it back together!

The console side is first (again you need to have the end up and arch it in). Note there is a “button” on the side of the center part of the console that you have to get hooked in. As you push the rear of the console down apply pressure to the side in that area to assure engagement.

Just work backwards through the steps and at last!

General comment: The kit works well and with patience it isn’t too bad to install. My only issue is that while the charger matches very well is a hard type of plastic. So if you don’t have a rubber case, your phone could slide around. The kit does come with a small rubber pad if you need.

Hope this helps!

Thank you, this is so helpful. This can be applied also to some current Jaguar models without wireless charging.
