Default XE 35T Break in period on the exhaust? Getting louder each time I drive it.

Just curious if anyone else has noticed this. From right off the truck to the first 150 miles the car was pretty quiet and actually somewhat disappointing in sound. Now at 400 miles and the car seems to be getting louder and louder every time I drive it. At what point is the exhaust fully break in?

I noticed mine was about 10% louder at 5k miles. I am starting to like it now.

It's a sign the exhaust is getting a very early leak/hole making it louder shows what poor quality products Jaguar uses. Probably some of the insulation is slowly deteriorating letting you hear more of the engine sound !

I'm at a little over 8k miles now. Exhaust sound is still changing, it's really starting to burble/crackle on overrun now which I love. Though it's probably stopped increasing in volume.

I hope you were being sarcastic. It is well known that exhausts have a break-in period where they tend to get louder and change in tone. Most likely due to carbon and other deposits building up on the sound insulation, walls of the exhaust, etc. It's not a fault.

I feel like once I hit 3000 miles my exhaust sound definitely became a little more noticeable and by folding down the rear seats (as I often have to do for a trip to Costco) you can hear it even better.

yes I was kidding, although I never heard of exhaust break in period. mine sounds exactly the same after 1800 miles

this is a great idea... will have to try it. also, cracking open the back part of the sunroof lets you hear it better as well.

This thread gives me hope. I just got a 2017 XE 35t R-Sport (seriously, they should have just left the name as S...) and the one thing I do wish were a bit more lively is the exhaust note. My other car being a newer AM Vantage S, you get used to getting that audible feedback of putting the peddle down. Missing that a bit right now with the Jag.

You know now that you guys mentioned it, or maybe it was just that time I am definitely hearing more growl from the exhaust, think its Sport mode mostly. It actually now feels to me like it's a big difference.... or maybe its just peer pressure

I have the more humble 25T. I took the break-in period quite seriously, and didn't push to experience any of the "animal" qualities right away. But over time, I could hear the engine behave differently during idling, differently with a change in brand of fuel, and growl more during those drives where I'm going traffic light to traffic light a lot.
It DOES evolve into it's full Jaguar-sounding tone during the process, not at the beginning.

And keep in mind, Mazeratis, Alfas, Jaguars, Audis,...they don't dare sound like US muscle cars and drag strip kits. Like it or not, there's always something controlled, deeper and mature about their growls. I call it "professional sound" and not some "loud-muffler, street call".

Just want to follow up with an update. I just hit 4000 miles and it sounds a decent bit louder after 3500rpms in all gears. The sound below 3500rpms pretty much is the same as it's always been since I drove off the dealer lot. Above 3500 though, I would almost say it's twice as loud as day 1. It's got a nice deep v6 tone and it's made me reconsider getting an exhaust. I honestly don't think there is a need for one unless you want to make noise at lower RPMs. You can also notice the supercharger sound between in the mid to lower rpm range. I would say it's almost (not exact but pretty close) to the F Type when throttle is under load at mid to higher RPMs. However the F type is much louder at lower RPMs, idle and transitions between gears.

Protip, as suggested above, if you really want to hear your exhaust, put you backseats down. It easily triples the loudness of the exhaust notes feeding into the cabin. Makes for some very satisfactory enthusiastic driving.

I'm not sure the passengers on the backseats will agree
