XE Discontinued
Let me preface this post by saying i never bought the XE for its long term value. But I am curious. Seeing that it has been discontinued, with such low USA sales numbers (i'm guessing less than 40K units based on the figures i've seen) what do you think that will mean for the value of our cars? They've already depreciated heavily, but what about now? I wouldn't be surprised if they just sort of disappear without much recognition, especially since the compact sport sedan segment is so saturated, but the optimistic side of me is saying hmmm
what do you all think? Is it good that the XE has been discontinued? bad? or doesn't really matter?

Most of the XE's were a detriment to the marque. Many were low spec cars that brought the whole line and image of Jaguar down. They lacked the elegance associated to Jaguar. The XE was too similar looking to the XF that even fans of the marque could be confused which one it was when driving by. I am digging the new XF though. Can't wait for the electric XJ.

I agree the XE's were clearly cutting into the XF Sales, and I personally believe Jaguar mis-cued when they introduced the less than 300hp low-powered engines in 2018 for these cars.
They really had something good with the 6Cyl Supercharged versions. Sorry to see it go, happy I have a unicorn. I am still enjoying my XE quite a bit.
So, I'm guessing Jaguar Project 8 will be a Dodo too?

Good points....
I am happy to have my supercharged V6 as well. Still think it's such an underrated car (at least at the used cost you can pick one up for)
But I have agree about the similarity of the XF/XE as well. Until I really started looking heavily, I couldn't distinguish between the XF and XE myself. Although I had the same issues with the Audi lineup, A4/A6/A8...
Dropping the more powerful versions of the XE did seem like an odd choice though. The P300 seems way to slow for how expensive it is. Definitely seems more like a middle range engine than the range topper it became (obviously not including the Project 8)
The new electric XJ does sound exciting based on how well they did with the I-pace. But I don't really have the need for such a big car and actually enjoy smaller vehicles so I am sad to see the XE go. Glad I scooped one up

It is a shame to see the XE go.
I agree I've driven both and the XF drove and felt like a longer XE. I do not carry people around other than the occasional friend so I went the XE route for better driving dynamics.
I also agree with the point about the interior quality of the XE. As we can tell with this new design team, the interiors of the new F-Pace, XF, and even the F-Type facelift are the nicest they've been in the past 5 years. I think Ian Callum kind of dropped the ball with the XE. I read an article that the XE's budget was cut and the main place where it took a hit was the interior since the majority of the money was spent on the drivetrain. I also read that it was supported to be a 5 door but Ian got shot down by the accountants (not sure of legitimacy).
A HUGE issue with Jaguar USA is the lack of advertising. Not ONCE did I ever see a XE commercial. I saw a few F-Pace adverts flaunting cheap lease deals. Where did the aggressive marketing go??? 3 series beater, F-Type engine...etc etc. I pray God they market the hell out of the '21 lineup especially new F-Pace.
RIP XE.

Really? That is good to hear. I remember seeing advertisements with the entire 2016/17 Jaguar lineup not just specifically the XE.

If Jag had put the original XE out with the 2020 XE interior and paid more attention to the rear end, I think it would have been a much different outcome. The 2020 is like a proper luxury car. It is still available in other markets, but had it gained traction in the US there would have been more of a case for the bigger engines in the 2020 model.

Until people stop buying double-decker buses (aka SUVs), small sports saloons like the XE will not do well in the marketplace. Of course the original XE of 2015 was not one one of Jaguars best efforts, in fact it was a pretty awful effort to be honest. My 2017 is pretty good and I'm pleased with it overall, but there was far more pleasure to be had sitting in my old X350. Of course this pleasure was reduced by the need for suspension bush replacements at regular and very low intervals !!
