Default 12.7 volts too low? "Gearbox Fault" "No Headlight Dip" "No Stability""

2017 CPO XF 3.0L rwd Premium
Ran well last 3 days except for the P0496 Vapor Canister DTC.
(Was awaiting schedule slot for that error.)

After a haircut, I started and immediately got the attached errors. Stopped and Restarted car and all errors disappeared for 2 minutes.

Driving to dealer, the transmission only gave 3rd gear.
(the lovely s/c 3.0L ran the car well despite only the 1 gear;
RPM's from 2k to 3.5k during the 3 mile trip)
Coolant stayed under 220F.

Upon parking, E-brake would not disengage to re-park.
Restarted car which freed up EPB.

Torque App was flashing on the Voltmeter Guage at 12.7.

My new to me 2017 CPO X260 rwd 3.0L is evidently ready for a fresh battery after 35k miles?

Threads here say 3 years is about it with the Start/Stop "Feature"...

We will see what the tech team comes back with.

New T4A14085 battery runs about $260

.

If it was while the car was running that sounds like it was measuring the charging, not the battery health, but charging is usually in the 13.5V range. What does the battery read after all electrical usage (even opening/closing door) has stopped for at least 10 minutes? 12.65 = 100% charge. All that activity sure sounds like battery though. Who knows how long it sat on lots before you bought it? My battery is fine after almost 4 years. Start/stop shouldn't be an issue because if you check you have one HUGE battery and it cuts out SS when the battery level gets too low. I couldn't stand the SS feature so disconnected it rather than remember to turn it off manually every time.

Always appreciate y'all's input here..
Shame on me for not simply buying a fresh AGM H7 when I bought it last month.
After years of forum lurking, I knew better.

Will follow up on diagnosis..

Smile SOLVED BY 60Month/CPO WARRANTY

This short saga has a happy ending.. (so far.)

Jaguar Richmond, Virginia completed a TSB, Pressure Test and supplied a new battery at $0.00 cost to me.
Super Impressed after my first visit!!
My '17 XF was also washed and vacuumed.

1. DTC P0496 - TSB JTB000697NAS: Completed Software Updates and Replaced Powertrain ECU.
2. Gearbox Fault & Traction Not Available: Battery Condition Test GRX/GR8 Failed: Replaced Battery.
3. Cooling System Pressure Test Completed: No Leaks at this Time.

Owing to the various cooling system TSB's on the AJ126, a preventative test seems very smart work.

My loaner was a 2020 BMW 330i x-Drive for 5 days.
Very quick and bank vault solidity. i-Drive/NAV/TFT Gauges are fantastic.
Quiet and composed but once I got back into my XF the BMW suspension was way too rigid in hindsight.
Driving the same roads back to work, the longer wheelbase XF and its V6 S/C engine made me appreciate Coventry & Castle Bromwich.

Please POLL your battery experiences at the top of this thread.
Thanks!

Every morning, Topix emails the daily TSB updates and other references.

I see that my "Gearbox Fault" from 2 weeks ago now shows up.. Not certain how many other owners experienced this recently internationally.

As I do not have a full subscription I can't read the details.

Anyone have a full Topix account?

I bought my 2016 XF about 8 months ago also from Jaguar Richmond and their records showed that they had replaced the battery in preparation for sale. Maybe 3 years is the normal life expectancy.

Did the garage say what the voltage should be? i think i am having a similar issue to you are the moment. My battery charge came back at 12.4v with just the boot open but i had just driven it. The tester i used said the battery was in perfect health and some people on here have said their batterys read at 12.3v and no issues. Sadly im out of warranty so its all cost to me so before i pay out for a new battery im trying to 100% make sure it is that and not a wheel/ABS sensor.
