Default 2016 XF - special tools for timing chains job

Greetings all.
Said hello over in the New Member Area, now over here for task at hand.

I have 65K miles on Betty and am looking at renewing the timing chains, tensioners etc.
Have obtained the BGA timing chain kit and a set of Ultra-Power VC gaskets.
(OE VC gaskets somewhat difficult to obtain. Supply chain stuff?)

Have taken a rummage through the Topix online manual and it seems doable.
Any provisos/dire warnings come to mind before I take wrench in hand?
Also, fair number of special tools recommended to tackle this one.
Is there a lending library type thing for these or is it catch as catch can?

Cheers.
Dave

Big job but do you have any timing tensioner problems?
You have a later model 2016 and the earlier cars tend to have more of these types of problems.

Look on EBay as they list tool kits for this job and since they are after market the price is way less than the Jaguar tools!
This is a kit for about $60.

Thanks for the link clubairth.

I did do a trawl through eBay and the trick is to find a kit specced for the X260 MY range.
Some of the kit parts have a different identifier i.e. the camshaft locking tool P/N for the X250 is 303-1145 while the X260 is 303-1445.
I found a nice aftermarket kit here:

Here's the sad story behind my interest in renewing the timing gear.
I have done my own maintenance on the various autos and motorcycles I have owned whenever possible.
EliteCare spoiled me in this regard, covering all maintenance, and I have had no issues for the 5 years of coverage.
Shortly after coverage expired, I was planning an extended cross-country run.
An oil change wasn't due, but why not.
I was pressed for time, (bad excuse) and took the car to the chain store I have been using for years for other vehicles with never an issue.
Upshot:
2 weeks ago wife pulls out of driveway, DIP lights up red, "Charging System Fault".
Alternator is saturated with oil.
Oil path traced back to Filter housing/cap interface.
Oil filter pleats are twisted and deformed.
Some oil has been bypassing filter and forcing it's way past the cap O-ring.

The chain store has eaten the cost of the replacement alternator, which I swapped myself.
The oil volume was down by about 30% when this issue appeared.
Car has 65K miles and has been somewhat oil deprived.
The stethoscope gives me a bit of rumble from the area of behind the water pump.

I will sleep better at night with a new set of timing gear on there, as I have another long run coming up in a couple of months.
Thanks for reading this far!
Cheers.
Dave

Well that IS a sad story for sure! I do all my own work still because of my lack of trust for anyone else to touch my car. This INCLUDES the dealers!
I see your concern.
Have you done the easy test?
Remove the oil filler cap and use a 90 degree pick and see if the chain that is visible has any movement or slop using your pick tool.
You might have gotten away with no damage?
