Could someone please tell me why a basic oil change for my 2018 FX S (Sportbrake) at my local dealer is priced at $295.00 + tax. If they check anything else, it's $380 + tax. The service manager says that's what supplies and labor cost. Is anyone aware of (warranty protective) non-dealer options?

I bought my 2016 XF used but it still had the 5 years warranty and included 5 years of free annual maintenance. This coming July service will be the end of it. Do you know if you still have warranty and the service agreement? That may depend on how and where you bought your car. Do check and confirm.
I will do everything possible to find a competent independent mechanic somewhere to do my service work when my 5 years runs out. There is an independent local fellow who works on Land Rovers, he is willing at least.
I have avoided dealer service departments all my life and I ain't dead yet.

A dealer in Michigan quoted $200 for oil change after my 5Year/60,000Mls elite maintenance runs out. Again, the prices may go up when it is time.
Hi Chief,
Assuming you are asking for when your '18's 60k/60 month Free Maintenance with EliteCare ends??
Or are you considering a semi-annual change interval vs the 16k prescribed and covered by JagUSA?
As many here have suggested, the ease of oil changes on AJ1xx engines beg for DIY; owing to oil vacuum tube within the oil cap nozzle and the filter being top of engine..
To answer your specific question, the labor, oil & filter costs for dealer changes can't exceed $40, $60 & $15, imho.
The rest is gluttony..
As my dad says, Profit is what we all live on.
That's a lot. $200 in Newport Beach, CA. Where are you? Like F1 said .... oil changes today are pretty generic and if you just use a good foreign car indy shop you should be OK. No Jiffy Lube Just make sure they use Jaguar filters and approved oil. Which brings up a question that's been bouncing around the forums. What's the approved oil specification? I can't find where Jaguar has published it. Anyone find it?

What's "anything else"? All top up fluid levels are simple visual check and they have warning lights if low. Stored error code don't mean much unless they throw a CEL or some other dire warning like worn pads or dead bulb.
I'm coming up on my last warranty service this September. I only do about 5K miles/year so the yearly oil change interval is over kill unless I'm collecting water in the oil. I plan on doing an oil analysis in Sept'22 to see what the oil properties are and go from there.
Because all threads improve when they devolve into "oil threads", this Castrol Edge 0w-20 20k change interval oil seems the closest thing to Jaguar-dealer-Only JLR-spec STJLR.51.5122.
I recall a patent exclusive to the JLR-spec for vario-cam actuation. Could only Jag dealers have the patented version required for your Jaguar EliteCare Warranty?
Liqui-Moly 0w-20 evidently has the JLR-spec.

Thank You! However, how arrogant can JLR be to make up their own specification and just share the number they associate with it! It should cross reference to SAE or some other standard. It's not like JLR makes their own oil.
