Blind spot monitor not working, no error indication

Hello, my first post! Just purchased a 2012 XF Portfolio which according to specs is supposed to come standard with blind spot detection. It isn't working and I don't receive any dash indications at all that there's a fault. The sensors for parking are all working.
Any ideas on where I should start looking? Is it possible that the previous owner simply disconnected the mirrors so I get no visual indication and this wouldn't generate a fault alarm?
