Default buyers guide to X260 Chassis XF

Hello everyone,

new to the forum,

i've been hankering after a jag for a fairly long time, and i love the x260 shape, however before i splurge 20+k on one i need to know what i should look for and what i should be wary of.

i am expecting some hefty repair bills during my ownership however i would like to mitigate these as much as possible.

i'm looking at getting either the v6 s petrol, or the 300 sport petrol, it seems the petrol versions of the XF demand considerable more money than their diesel brethren.

i've heard stories of the v6 water pump failure and the plastic spaghetti round the back of the engine leaking and i'll prepare for that, all cars seem to have similar issues these days due to the copious amount of plastic used.

regarding the 300hp ingenium though not much has been said what i should be looking for, is there anything?

also i've read horror stories of the ecus frying due to water ingress, but it doesnt seem to be talked about too much, is this something to worry about? i'll only be doing around 4k miles a year in it and it will be sat on my drive for the time i'm not driving it, giving plenty of opportunity for this to happen, is there a fix for this issue or is it a rare occurrence?

is there anything else i need to be wary of?

am i best off sticking to jaguar dealers rather than independent dealers? jag dont seem to have much choice of used cars in petrol and most are the low spec models

According to wikipedia, you cannot buy an XF v6 with an Ingenium engine. The only Jaguar that has the V6 Ingenium is the F-Pace 2019 - present model. The 2.0 T Ingenium engine is the most common on Jaguar models (XF, F-Pace, XE and E-Pace).
I have the 2.0 Ingenium and I like it a lot. When I am cruising on the Freeway (Motorway) it is even quieter like I am driving an EV. It has good MPG: 23/31. The only drawback is it has Turbo, so, I am lucky if I can hit more than 250K miles on this engine. Fingers crossed.

Good luck

Not sure you understood my post.

I was wondering if the ingenium petrol engine is reliable, but no one seems to be able to answer this. The variable rate oil pump and electronically controlled piston cooling jets make me a little worried, am I justly concerned with this or am I being paranoid?

I was also pondering about purchasing the v6 supercharged, and whether the difference between this and the 300 hp ingenium in terms of driveability was that significant.

In the UK the v6s was available between 2015 and 2018. I want to try and get a 2018 model if I can.

If I go down the v6 route what other issues other than the plastic noodles around the back of the block are their to worry about?

Lastly I've heard that this model xf has issues with water ingress and the ECUs in the floor getting fried. I can't really find much on this online, is it something to look for or not?

I am so sorry, SIr, I didn't realized you are in the UK. You are in an XF forum (USA) and you are inquiring about the reliability, so I did my best to answer your question based on my experience in 2.0 Ingenium engine. Nothing bad happened as off yet to tell you frankly because I only have 35K+ miles on it. We have a member and a Super Mod that goes by the name GGG (Graham) also from the UK. He visits this forum quite often and maybe he can give you some feedback..

Also, to broaden what you are searching for (reliability ,,,etc), try asking the folks at the Land Rover forums. They too have the same engines as we have in our Jaguars.
Good luck.

Having been in this forum for six years I was unaware that it's exclusively for people in the USA!
I am in the UK, as are many other members. Whilst different countries have differing markets for the model, we all have, or are interested in the Jaguar X260 model and there are only minor differences

In actuality to what I have read on this forum, according to some of the members here. There are 2 of them
Jaguarforum.com (UK board without the s)
Jaguarforums.com (USA board with the s)
Let's see if GGG (Graham) has to say if this is true. . But anyway, whichever country you are from you are always invited to participate.

Here's 2 of the discussions
