Exclamation Engine oil leak - Valve cover gasket fail

Hello all,

I noticed some fresh engine oil on the front of the engine behind the pulleys and the dealership replaced the driver's side valve cover gasket under warranty, 53000 miles on the Odo. This is definitely a premature failure I reckon.

I don't think I am alone with premature gasket failure but I did not see any posts on this topic.

Cheers!!

Thanks for the heads up..
Could you post a clear picture of the repair invoice so we can see the notes, parts and labor hours?
From your previous posts your Warranty looks like the Elite 60k.

I wonder if the 100k CPO would cover such a leak..

I am sorry, I don't have the invoice now, I asked the same question over the phone had the CPO covered it and I remember the service advisor saying yes but the cell reception was poor. I remember it was a yes.

First I've read. You probably are alone.

Probably, there are just some loose bolts on the valve cover that need to be re-tighten. Unless, your engine is in a much heated stress due to rapid acceleration or has been abused. Very uncommon for such a low mileage car..

I just went through the same ordeal. Was leaking oil from the passenger side valve cover. As an added bonus the oil leak caused the alternator to fail. Happened at 47k. Bought the car as a CPO at just over 40k miles so luckily they replaced the gaskets on both sides and the alternator for free. Don’t even want to know what the quote would have been. The service manager estimated around 5k to 10k.

Happens more often than you think. Multiple threads about oil leaking onto alternator. They leak from upper timing covers. Needs reseal with sealant.

Useful, important thread!
As some of us reach 50-60k now, the CPO Warranty will be put to the test..

Reminds of the valve cover issues with the AJ-v8 on the X308..
