My gear selector will not allow me to select a gear, it's stuck in Park. Embarrassingly I have been recovered home on the back of a breakdown vehicle. This is the second time its got stuck, the morning after all was OK and no problem this is now the second time it has done this in three weeks . My local Jaguar dealership states it requires a diagnosis & software update £500, Another jaguar dealership 10 miles away suggested a gear selector motor module £500. can anybody help with this?? has anybody experienced this before

So, from what you say, the gear knob rises normally but when you try to move it to select a gear, it won't move, correct. Is the knob rising to its normal height ? As said here, if the input from the brake switch isn't getting through, the TCM won't allow any gear to be selected.
These gear selection mechanisms have been around since the first XF (X250) came out, and some troubles were experienced early on, but your 2015 should not really be suffering a problem. Fact is yours is the first time I have seen this reported fault, although to be fair, I don't often visit this particular forum. What miles on the car ?
Are you totally dependent on Jaguar main agents ? There are some independents around that will probably have seen this fault before. I know of one or two locally in Cheshire, but not in Oxfordshire. There is also Dave Marks in Nottingham; it might be prudent to give them a call.

My 2017 XF had that transmission issue like yours during delivery 6/22/16, although I also had a fault light. I started to occasionally experience a momentary "stuck in park" problem about three months ago, which I'll report at my next service vist. I scanned the service document text, perhaps it will help:
