Default How much do you pay for an oil change?

I took my car in for 48K service to the Jag dealer who was advertising the service for 68 bucks on their website. When I got the bill it was 160 dollars. I asked the service coordinator why it was so much more than the advertised price. She looked puzzled. The service manager came in and the technician and they all told me there was no way they could do the work for 60 dollars - there was more than 60 dollars more in parts. So I walked them through the website and when they put in the info up popped the 48K service and the 68 dollar price. Long story short they would not honor the price but gave me 30 off the service. But my question is - how much do you pay for an oil change? I know the dealer is always going to be more But 160 seems like a lot.

How many quarts does it take - the paperwork says 7 quarts - what kind of oil do you use?

I buy plenty of oil meeting jag spec (for my region) and add new till it's full. Can't say I measure qty really.

Top it up when run and settled, check level after the next run or two to make sure it's not losing any.

Oil changes are not tough.

In the US we get warranty and all required maintenance including fluids and filters for 5 years so nobody here would know how much an oil change costs for an X260 :-)

The 2015 is the X250 - this is the wrong subforum. The titles on the forum are confusing. The first year X260 hit the dealers in the fall of 2015 which is why 2015 is the first year on this subforum. I wish they'd change it.

Default Oil Change

I had an oil change for my 2015 XF 3.0 SC AWD done at dealer and price was somewhere around $137. This was at dealer in New Jersey.

Hmm. Well it seems my 2016 Jaguar XF AWD Prestige gets prestige attention: my bill for the 31300 Kms(about 19000 miles) service was abut 900$ Canadian. This included synthetic oil/filter, diagnostics/fuel injection system cleanup/rear diff oil change plus special other additive, complete vehicle check ie tires, brake, pipes, all hoses etc and fluid levels topped up. Only problem fixed was new tensioner belt which had caused a whoo whoo noise at about 30MPH. I guess not that bad as I am good to go for another 25K Kms or 15K miles. An oil and filter change alone would leave me nervous!! That price of 900$Cdn isn't out of line with the costs in the USA I have read about btw.

I'm not ragging on the dealer .... well maybe I am ... but $900 Can for an oil change is a bit much.

Did they explain why any of this was necessary? And what exactly did they do to "cleanup FI system"? "Special other additive" is that kind of like the "secret sauce" the sushi chefs use Looks like a snow job to me.

Belt was probably $50 Can max? Did they show you the belt? If it was the belt it should have produced the noise every time you hit the rpm range in any gear that made the noise at 30 mph. Brake fluid & coolant check is "observe level in tank" which have low fluid sensors and warn you. Trans fluid isn't "checked" unless there's a problem and there's a warning (not necessarily low fluid) for that as well. Does the AWD require short differential fluid change intervals? At 19K miles? The RWD doesn't even list it as ever necessary.

Depends on the labor required for what they said they did. But that much for a 19K mile service is just wrong.

I've been servicing my own cars for almost 60 years and I'm cynical about what dealers do today. Modern cars rarely need anything "topped up" except coolant and if they do need "topping up" of an oil other than for the motor it means there's a leak or a problem. Lubricants other than motor oil aren't consumables. Coolant sometimes requires topping off but it's a closed system so that's a mystery to many.

I guess I was a fool then....Had my XF in for warranty work, so I casually told the service advisor, "While you have it, you may as well do an oil change". Was that ever a big mistake. They charged me $350.00 for the oil change, parts and labor. When I questioned it, all they said was, "thats what we get". So I guess in the future they will only get my warranty work.

Wow - man I do it myself - and I am mechanically challenged.. - I buy my full synthetic at costco and a filter - I maybe pay 25-30 bucks plus an hour of my time.

Default Oil Change

My Jaguar dealer charged me like $137 for an oil change and of course they did their bullshit 150 point "free" inspection which turned up with nothing needed.

I thought that this was very reasonable especially since oil is like $12 or $13 a quart.

This was in New Jersey.

Good price from dealer. No way oil = $12, 13 a quart. More like 1/2 that for synthetic.
