just bought a 2009 xf..
Hi, I'm a forum member and s type owner. My s type (3.0) is a very nice car, but with very high miles (205,000) and a lot of nickel and dime diy issues that have become too frustrating for me to deal with. My wife and I have owned 4 different Jags and she loves them, so over the weekend we picked up a 2009 XF 4.2 with 88,000 miles and a clean carfax history and apparent routine Jaguar dealership maintenance history to become her daily driver. I am uncertain as to the various subset numbers I see on the forum, i.e "200" , "250" ???? What do those numbers mean and which is my newly acquired '09 XF with the 4.2?
Also, any feedback on things to watch for is appreciated. As a diy caretaker, I am certain I will become a regular in the XF section. BTW, my s type will remain in the family, but as a reserve car, parked in the garage for occasional or emergency use. Thanks for any responses.

They're internal (to Jaguar Corp) codes, representing the car model.
The S-Type started with X200 and was redesigned (X202) then tweaked (X204) and so on.
The XF is X250 or more recently X260. (Being a development based on the S-Type.)
A lot of the codes are in the Vehicle Specifications PDF you can download if you wish.

I don't have very good news for you. After we bought our used 2009, we had to replace the alternator, battery, one rear door lock, and rear axle seals; while the fuel door, GPS, and others that I can't remember were still a problem (not to mention the buckled dash leather). When I asked the used car puke and the sales manager puke about selling a car in that state, their reply was (as expected), "The car was fine when you drove it off the lot."
When we traded it in on a new XF, the Jag dealer sold it for salvage.
