Key Replacement Jaguar XF

Key Replacement Jaguar XF
I own a Jaguar XF, and when I purchased the vehicle, pre-owned, it only had one key. I thought to myself that I may want to have a spare key as a back-up. NOT!!!!!! My Jaguar dealership here in Asheville NC quoted me an astronomical price: $560.00 (key) $125.00 (one hour service for programming)
That's asinine! Is it just this dealership's overinflated prices, or is it across the board? Obviously, Jaguar dealerships' parts are wayyyyyy over-priced, but almost $700.00 for a key????

You can buy one on ebay. Ex:
OEM JAGUAR XJ XF F-TYPE 11-15 2016 SMART KEY REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY FOB KOBJTF10A | eBay
Then google the programming instructions. If you won't find ones then you probably will need to cough up $125 for dealer's services. But still cheaper than buying a new one

SSM73234 Smart Key Replacement and Consequential Replacement of Remote Function Actual Models:
F-PACE / X761
F-TYPE / X152
XE / X760
XF / X260
XJ / X351
Affected Vehicles:
XJ: V90866- Onwards
F Pace: 045000- Onwards
XF: Y00001 - Onwards
F type: K22185 – Onwards
XE: 900000 - Onwards
Issue:
Vehicles requiring new or replacement smart keys due to additional keys required, or key remote loss will require a new Remote Function Actuator (RFA)
Cause:
After 30th March 2015 all of the above vehicle lines have a software update applied to the ‘Start Authorisation System’ at PDI, which makes their RFA ‘read only’
After this point, should a customer require additional smart key(s) (due to loss etc.), the RFA will require replacement. As previously, the customer will still be liable for the key fob, cutting of the mechanical key blade, and programming of the RFA, but not the cost of the new RFA itself. This SSM refers to Field Service Action K285v3 therefore exists to cover the cost of procurement and fitting of a new RFA to ensure that customers are not disadvantaged by this product enhancement.

Don't feel too bad my friends. BMW charges about as much if you need to replace your key because you lost it. Seems to be normal now for reprogramming of your System by dealers for just about anything including updates on electronics, GPS and so on. It always takes hours and hours and YOU pay. Welcome to the next generation coming of AUTONOMOUS cars.

If you recently bought your car from a dealer, and the dealer got the car as a trade-in, I'd connect with the dealer to see if they can contact prior owner to see if they have the second remote. It never hurts. I got lucky once and was able to get the second remote. The prior owner brought his car in for service, and left with a new car.
