Retro fit ACC on a x260 XF
Hi, newbie member and yes, I have seen some info on possibly upgrading the cruise control on my ‘65 plate XF (x260).
i thought I would do this, if possible and does not cost the earth, but now I am reading that in fact ACC may not be all that good in some situations. Standard CC is better. How true is that?
is it worth the cost to upgrade to CC? My reason for pondering this is fact that with CC you have to intervene a lot, then we-engage the CC. I am now seeing posts that describe ACC getting real close, breaking hard, accelerating up again. True?
i do not want to spend the money if I end up not liking ACC. Better to stick to standard CC.
as I am not very mechanical minded I would have to find a an independent specialist to do the retro fit.

Though 2 of my vehicles comes equipped with CC I simply never used it or will I ever be. The answer to that is, it will make me feel sleepy driving on the road if I rely on CC. There are a lot of YouTube videos regarding about the advantages & disadvantages of ACC over CC. I think in you case, once you have the ACC, you'll never go back to CC. Just my take.

What make it difficult for me to decide is that it is not a clear cut decision one way or the other, opinions seem to be evenly split. It would be good if the system would allow you to switch between CC and ACC, like I have the option of standard speed limiter or intelligent mode.

You have the ability to set how much distance you want to leave between you and the car in front of you when you are in follow mode. Once it's senses that there is a vehicle ahead, it eases off the throttle and starts braking. So I can't see how it would get real close and then brake hard unless the had it in the most aggressive mode.

Hi 2018XF25T, from my point of view I have never had a car with something like CC. Just a few weeks ago I had to hire a car for the family holiday, which came with (standard) CC and I loved using it, guess the novelty factor. But I see your point of view about becoming lazy!

I would recommend it without hesitation.

Retro fit ACC
may I ask how did you do this? As I say, I admit I am not very mechanically minded - certainly not to tinker on my car. How easy was it? What are the steps? Parts?

hi, interesting. I took my car to a local “specialist” who basically said not worth the effort, too expensive.

You say that all wirings exist already, which is good.
thanks

Sorry, but I am new to this forum, and never had a Jag before hence am uncertain, did you source the parts from Jaguar (expensive), or an alternative (cheaper) source? Can you recommend a site for Jag spares, that are trust worthy?

I often find this to be the case when the company/individual simply doesn't know how to carry out the retrofit and they fob it off as either being too expensive or says something like "it's physically impossible".

yes, indeed. Doesn’t just apply to cars but to other trades as well. Why can’t people just be honest and say “ never done this , don’t know how to do it…”

We still can only assume that like your car my 2016 x260 model has the wiring in place.
