They won't release everything at once. When told what the true power potential of the 550 hp SV8 was, we were told +140. Before anyone asked why not release it full power, our performance trainer asked "What do we sell for the next 6 yrs if we give it all away at once."
With a trickle release Jag is able to keep rolling out 'new and exciting' for the entire 7yr run of the new XF.

I would really hope that they keep the V8 as a possibility. That seems reasonable since the 3.0 V6 is really the V8 minus two cylinders (i.e., 90 degree engine not 60 degree). That means everything under the hood is already sized for the V8.
But who really knows, fuel mileage standards may be working against that happening.

Jaguar - it's not an automobile, it's a Motorcar
Current Hers: '13 Lexus ES350
Current Mine: '08 S-Type 4.2 "Satin Edition" (250.06 whp / 259.67 torque)
Past Ours: '05 X-Type 3.0/auto Jaguar Racing Green
But who really knows, fuel mileage standards may be working against that happening.

We're now about a month into 2018 and... still no V8/SC XF on the horizon for the X260? Or did I miss some major news here?
The X260 XF-S is a fine car, I remember mostly that it felt very agile on (relatively) slow, twisty roads compared to my 2010 XF 5.0/SC which feels very heavy in comparison, but it is also severely lacking in power. Performance wise (not handling wise or "premium car" wise) it's competing with cars like a baseline and relatively slow Charger R/T and that's not good enough for a top end model (in my opinion).
It can in no way compete with AMGs and M3s/M5s and the likes, and this is such a shame. I don't know how much more they could reliably squeeze out of a 3 liter SC V6. It feels like nudging 400 HP is about as far as they could reliably push it and still offer an engine that is not too anemic in the lower rev range, and that leaves them at least 100 HP short.
Is there a V8/SC on the horizon? I was really hoping they would bring one out for 2018, but now it seems like if they do bring one out it will be for 2019 at the earliest.

JLR V8 and V6 engines are built at the Ford Bridgend Engine Factory in Wales. The plant has been making V8 and V6 engines for JLR since 1990 when it was part of the Ford Group and this continued after purchase of JLR by Tata in 2008.
The contract for engine production at Bridgend is ending in late 2020 when it is expected all JLR engine manufacture will move to Wolverhampton in the West Midlands of England. The Wolverhampton engine manufacturing centre opened in 2014 and plans were announced in 2015 to double its size.
JLR has released no details about plans for V8/V6 engine production from 2020 which explains why any proposed individual model changes have not not yet been made public.
