My engine didnt start, Jaguar suggested replacing it as belt failure damaged internal parts. Estimate for job is approx £12,000... My god....Dealer is putting forward a goodwill cause for JLR to review. Very depressed in Jaggys performance....
Will JLR pay full amount?
Is it worth changing and using the car or should i buy another one?
Model: Oct 2016 jag xf
miles: 81,000 miles
diesel / auto

Find an independent maintenance provider that can source a used motor and I bet the cost will be less than half that installed. Auto wrecking yards are all connected by the internet these days and you should be able to find one with low mileage.

Sorry, you maybe misunderstood. Somewhere in the documented list of jobs to be done during services, there will be the interval for changing the timing belt, normally as mileage or time interval, whichever comes first.

I personally think it is a general expectation for a car's engine to last for atleast 10 years or 120k without having any issue. If car engine fails completely within 6 years of use and it requires £12k to fix it, it is certainly a design flaw. I classify it as a component that is not designed fit for purpose. JLR didn't want to pay for it fully as stated by @sx_turbo . So I am considering to approach small claim court. If anyone had same issue in the UK and paid for it, can you let me know, so I can add your case reference or repair invoice number or vehicle registration number in my "Particulars of Claim form" against JLR please.

While potentially a lot less costly, the only problem with this route is that you're spending good money to install another used engine, that quite possibly has an "unknown pedigree"....

Thanks a lot Samaratians, I just wanted to update you all to your questions and my case.
- The timing belt change is due at 126k mine and my engine failed due to it at 81k.
- I ended up paying £2500 for the engine change and did a full service for £420 approx
- At the time of collection, the dealer suggested replacing, A heater hose (£29.59), A coolant hose (£9.90) and Glow plugs (£31.58) for £374 inclusive vat and labour for 1.5 hours. I said it should be a included as part of engine replacement but they told this is a different job.
- My enging management light was on within 3 days and returned to dealer (Synster) who told the light was on due to a differnt issue and quoted approx £324 for labour to replace Engine Cooler filter that costed approx £24 with gasket etc. My view is it should be done for free because i left for full service and got my engine replaced only few days before and they should have addressed it before. They said it cannot be done at that time or it is not possible for them to find at that stage and normally they replace the engine cooler filter only when it is blocked.
- When I visited to address the Engine management amber light, they adviced to change rear brake disc and pad for which they quoted £696 and I accidently found a older quote to do the same job for £420 two weeks ago. When I questioned the price rise, they said the labour rates have increased. I was furious and told them it appears they provide increased quotes only for me and expressed my disappointment, Later I can find other dealers still replace the jaguar xf rear brakes and pads for £400.
