Default 1st Gen XFR front end conversion

I have a 2009 XF SC and I am considering converting my front end. I know a few members have done this with insurance claims. If I were to buy, outside of the obvious, hood, and bumper cover. I know I can get the inserts to the hood but what about the hood liner? I found them for $134 but can I use my existing liner? Can any XFR members take some pics of there hood liner?

I'd guess the liner is different but hopefully someone will respond. If the vents are functional it would have to be different but you could probably use your stock liner and cut slits in it. Here are the costs I was given which are cheaper than normal dealer costs.

Hood cost list:
XFR Hood: $1850
Hood liner: ?
Hood inserts: $240/pair

Bumper cost list:

Bumper: $1200
Lower grills: $370 for all 3
Chrome rings for grills: $175/pair
New under bumper shield: $290
Misc screws/washer/delfector: $65

Total Cost: $4,190 plus labor and paint

Paint for me was around $1,500 but that can vary wildly depending on the shop. Labor will be a decent amount to and cost will depend on the shops rate.

Thanks Blackcoog, I found a hood for a reasonable price. Just wondering what else I'm in store for. I'm probably gonna do it in phases and keep a look out for used.

Yup, I figure once the cars start showing up in salvage yards the swap will be much cheaper.

Hello, I am a 09 S/C owner and I managed to get the XFR front bumper for an amazing price. I was wondering if:

1/ The new Under bumper shield is a MUST have? or if the original part could also work (if modified or smtg.. by the shop ?)

2/The bumper that I got does not have the sensors little covers. I suppose, I could just take off the current ones that I have for the new bumper.

3/And last, since I only have the bumper that didn't come with the lower mesh grills and chrome rings ... I was wondering if the Mina gallery kit come with the chrome rings... they mention smtg about ''Chrome surrounds'' I'm not sure if they refer to the rings...

Blackcoog, I am looking forward to converting my front end just like yours

Thanks for helping me out... By the way, I am looking for the cheapest way to convert it. So, I don't mind the little perfect détails as long as it is visually OK.

Much appreciated

You need the XFR under shield. Your old one is completely different. I suppose you could try to run without it but I'd just get the shield for $300 (could be worse). The grills and the trim rings nickle and dime you but I don't know of any other option so you'd have to get those as well. I'm not sure on the sensor retro fit since mine had the sensor holes.

Sorry

Thanks for the response.
My XFR bumper carry the holes already. I was asking if the regular sensors on my current xf bumper could be switched (the little circles).

You are right, I will be getting the under shield... could be worse.

Does anyone know if the mina gallery lower mesh grill kit come with the chrome rings..?

Thanks again.

oh..almost forgot.
I have realized that some of the XFR side vents have what they call Blankets (not really sure) Did you have to modify anything on yours... Is it smtg important on the 09 SC conversion? I have also seen some that are completely blanked. Thanks

My shop said there was some confusion on the ducting behind the bumper for the oil coolers. They don't line up perfectly. The dealer said that the 2011 XFR (my XFR bumper is a 2011) had the oil coolers moved to the top of the motor. They look/work fine so I left them as is. You wouldn't notice unless we got down and looked behind the front grill and I pointed it out.

I don't think they had to modify anything. If they did they never mentioned it to me. Your going to have to pull the old one off and fit the new one on and verify fitment.

The bumper sensors should be the same but I didn't swap them so I'm not sure.

As far as some XFRs having one of the side grills covered (if that's what you meant) I remember hearing something about it but someone else will have to chime in. It might have been due to the car having 1 vs. 2 oil coolers but I'm not positive.

I can't wait for the snow to melt here. I haven't been able to drive the car since I had the XFR bumper put on last year.

front end I can't justify for the cost of it,
I wouldn't recommend painting only front either, it'll show a different color tone. Maybe I'm just picky.
I'd recommend entire repaint of the car, which is about 4-5k for decent quality

Only thing I can consider my self doing to my front is trying to get the Euro Headlights, as I hate my orange corners

I think you're car is beautiful as it is,
info@minagallery.com Ask for chris, He'll be able to answer you on any of the questions.
They also carry some custom front ends that you may be interested in.

The hood louvers are functional, and the hood liner is cut out around them. A few plastic fasteners hold the hood liner to the hood near the cutouts. I popped my original hood louvers in and out several times to experiment with painting them, and I never had any problems. I eventually replaced them with the Mina Gallery carbon fiber louvers, though, which simply adhere to the hood.
