Default 2008 XF Alarm - Should it "chirp"

Hi all,

Bought the XF from a Jag dealer in March last year, all year whenever the car was locked and I gained entry through keyless entry (pulled door handle with key fob in pocket) the alarm sounded briefly, I always assumed it done this to indicate the alarm was deactivated.

In Dec I had to return the car to the dealers for the passenger window repair for the second time, since then it hasn't made a sound upon entry. I noticed it but thought nothing of it, after all they said it'd been plugged into the laptop to setup the window controls during the previous repair.

This week it was in for the fuel filler flap repair, while I was there I asked about this "chirp," they said it should never have been making the noise, and had a shocked look when I mentioned that in that case they sold me a car with a fault, and had had it in for other repairs and not noticed it themselves. So with that they plugged it back into the diagnostic gismo and sure enough it had a software fault, 8 hours later I got the car back with it all shiny and fixed, but still no "chirp."

Long story short, the handbook states "In certain markets, a double audible
tone will sound," so is the UK one of these markets? and why would the car have done this for 10 months then stopped?

Thanks in advance
