I have the same age car and put in the 2017 disc last year so can't see any reason that it would not work.
Personally I wouldn't do a remap for fuel economy (might consider a performance one though) With the way insurance companies view remaps and the difference in fuel economy you will get, coupled with the cost of the remap then it is likely to take a long time to recover the outlay through lower fuel use so I don't really see the point in doing it.

Watch out for the ones on eBay. They work but aren't as up to date as they claim.
DVDs were not actually released post 2012 when they switched to SD card. The system may read data in the same format from a different medium and someone may simply have written this to a disc, or it could have been coded for the new hardware but my 2017/8 maps don't recognise roads that were there from the start of 2017!
