Default 2010 Jaguar XF 5.0 engine hood

I bought a used 2010 xf and was not careful enough to check the engine hood (the hood handle missed at the time I test drove and the test drive was perfect)

Now I get the handle and open the hood up. I found it seems a part missing in the engine hood. Anyone has an idea about what it is and what's its function?

The first one is my car's image, and the second one is an image from google.

Is this a severe issue for a 12-year-old car?

Thanks!

Best,
Tianyu

Your car is missing the RHS air intake snorkel. It's a mirror image of the LHS one.
Not a severe issue or a huge problem, it simply means the intake air coming in from that side is maybe a little warmer than it would be with the correct snorkel fitted.
You should be able to get a new one from a dealership or a JLR parts store (probably a bit expensive) or a better choice would be to track down a used one from a breaker/wrecker/dismantler.

Hi OzXFR,

Many thanks for your quick reply! I will track if there is a suitably used part so that I could bring it to a technician who can install it. If the OEM part will cost a couple of thousand I will just leave it there. Anyway I cannot feel abnormal during the drive.

The OEM part new is nowhere near $2,000!
Here's one I found from Jaguar Palm Beach for $259.52 US: https://parts.jaguarpalmbeach.com/a/...E/4750292.html
Part # 10, C2D2365.
It also shows the other end of the snorkel, where it connects to the rest of the intake tubing down under the air filter box (Part # 8 the LHS one shows it).

Also which one gonna be the part I need? I am a little bit confused. I think it should be part #8, but I cannot distinguish how to tell left or right for a car.

Thank you for your help!

I got it that RHS means Right-hand side. Now my confusion becomes which direction should I tell the right LOL. So if what I need is RHS, then probably I need both #7 and #10?

I also found some parts on ebay autoparts, so do I need both two parts in the image to consist of the whole intake tube maybe?

Thank you again!!!

When I say RHS (Right Hand Side) I am using the usual automotive convention of "looking forward from the driver's seat".
So it is the opposite of looking into the engine bay while standing in front of the car, ie the LHS of your pic.
And yes you may need part #7 as well but that is impossible to tell from your pic, the original part is probably still there (although it may be broken) or it may also be missing, you would need to remove a few plastic parts and shine a torch/flashlight down there to check.

I got you! I am going to check with it. But I believe it was missing too since I can directly see the radiator. I guess the previous own uninstalled it for some reasons like he dont wanna repair or something.

Again, thanks a lot for your help!

Part #7 doesn't go under the hole you can see in your pic (where you can see the radiator), it goes on the other end of the snorkel and connects it to the underside of the airbox. That is why you can't tell if it is still there or not from your pic but you should be able to check by taking the RHS airbox out.

It might be of some help but attached is a pdf of the XFR intake system (from the 2010-2011 XFR Workshop Manual), I believe the NA version is the same.
The parts you are interested in are numbers 13, 14, 15 and 16.
We already know you are missing part number 14 and you may or may not be missing one or more of the other three parts.

Looks exactly the same with my intake system. I will have a look at if the remaining parts are staying in the hood or also missing.

Thanks!!

I checked my engine bay today and found both upper and lower RHS intake tube are missing. But anyway it will be easy to install and both parts are available. Thanks for your advice bro!

Hey be sure and post back with your repair!
We always see problems and failures but a nice fix is appreciated.

I would buy used parts as those are not wear items. They should be very easy to find too. Not a common part to replace.

Well, that's mostly true... the mesh does start to rust and degrade over time...

Here's what those intake snorkels look like taken apart...

Does Jaguar still sell the tubes?
When I looked at mine I thought they were some kind of heavy woven material? Sure did not feel like metal.

I'm sure they still sell them, but not sure if they sell the individual sections. That middle part is some kind of fabric woven around steel mesh, and the fabric will eventually degrade and the steel will rust (at what point and to what degree is obviously dependent upon a lot of variable factors). I live in Atlanta and bought the car new, so my car has never been exposed to snow/ice/salt, but you can see how mine looked after only 10 years and 52K miles. I recently cleaned my tubes up and coated them in FlexSeal liquid (not the top part which connects to the cowl/shroud immediately under the hood, though), which withstands temps up to 350° and will prevent further degradation.

For the correct part numbers:
