2011 XF-Super vs. 2012 XF-Super
Hi,
I am trying to make a decision between the 2011 and 2012 XF - Superchargeds. Can all ye chime in. Any differences/upgrades/downgrades you all have noted would be very welcome.
Also poll: would you go for 2011 or 2012 at a price difference of 8K, 0 miles.
thanks,
Newfire

Remember the harsh and illogical depreciation factor. That 2011 has already dropped in real value by at least 10% of sticker without turning a wheel. That means it is a great buy if you intend to keep the car and not so much if you want to trade it in a few years.
Many think the 2012 has enough improvements to be worth buying for that reason alone.

Was recently in the same spot. Made the decision to get a 2011 S/C (three days ago, in fact). Savings on the '11 vs '12 plus the 5-year warranty (with service, including pads/rotors) on the '11 made it a relatively easy choice for me - even though I usually want the "latest and greatest". I do like the new headlights and the improved nav system on the '12, but the engines are exactly the same. Just depends what you want and how much you are willing to pay. Having a blast in the car, although only about 80 miles so far... I do tend to keep my cars for 5+ years, so depreciation on getting the '11 not a big factor, especially since I got it discounted by what I thought fairly reflected the depreciation factor (similar range to the discount you mention).

This is an interesting thread. I have a 09 XF s/c and I am itching badly to buy a 11 xfr. But I see so many with huge price flucuations outhere and cant figure out why since they all have the same miles and options.
I want to find out how to buy an XFR the smart way if any of you want t ochime in please.

Prices are all over the place, you are right, but you should be able to get into an 11 XFR with circa 5k miles for about 58k before taxes, in my view. The dealer where I bought mine 6 months ago had two of them at $60k last time I was there (2 weeks ago), but they are gone now. If you are patient and prepared to go far afield, cars at the $60k price point will come up. Try dealers in the south - Jags arent popular down here and XFRs don't shift too readily.

I just switched from an 09 S/C to an '11 S/C. Absolutely loving it!! The deal I got was too good to pass away and the warranty made a huge difference considering I spent $700 for brake pads and rotors just last month on my 09
I am not completely sold on the looks of the '12 yet. Haven't tried the new nav so can't compare. The old nav is clunky but nothing a $90 Garmin wouldn't solve.
The car is an absolute beast and a real head-turner in vapor grey with the Selena wheels.
Needless to say I am grinning ear to ear every time I get in the car.
No matter what you choose,
You can't lose!!!
Good Luck.

Yeah, sorry about that. When I bought six months ago I figured that my car would lose $20k over the two years I intend to keep it, which equates to $833 per month. What can you lease for that payment? Nothing like an XFR. You can argue that there is a cost of capital too, but the cash was sat doing nothing in my bank. This is the most I have ever lost on a car, but hey, it is the most fun I have had too! So the depreciation I am seeing on the dealer forecourt is about in line with expectations, and it isn't a linear curve either. Will an '11 XFR with ~20k miles be worth $43k in the summer of 2013?

I checked the 2011 XF before I purchased a 2012. The differences in the infotainment system and exterior styling were enough for me to go newer regardless of the deals for the 2011. I figured I would never regret buying a 2012 but might if I bought the 2011 and saw the new body style on the road. At the price we are paying for these cars +/- $8000 is relatively immaterial to get what you want. Plus, they are not investments. Unfortunately, they all will decrease in value.

What Brazz says is true, assuming money is not an impediment (which it probably isn't significantly at these price points), if you are going to feel badly buying/driving the 2011 vs the 2012, get the 2012! The 2012 seems very nice and certainly it includes some very nice improvements - if money/maintenance are no object, I would say go for it. For me, I was a bit leery about Jaguar reliability generally, and the 5-year more inclusive warranty on the 2011 vs the 4-year not inclusive warranty on the 2012 was a significant factor, which I unscientifically thought added ~$2K in additional value to the 2011. But I am a bit jaded. My last vehicle was a 2004 Porsche Cayenne S (purchased in 2003, so early model of an initial vehicle) and given that I only put about 7-8K miles a year on my cars, the maintenance and repairs on the Cayenne (the most expensive of which occurred out of warranty but in my opinion would have been unveiled during the warranty if I put 10K+ miles on the car/year) made me extra cautious with this replacement. So I guess I would say whether $8k or so is "material" is in the eye of the beholder. I will be less frustrated by problems in this 2011 version (while hoping there are not many) than I would be with problems on the 2012 at +$8k and less warranty, hence my choice. Newfire - let us know where you come out. Either way, you win!
