Default 220k miles - good purchase?

I'm looking at purchasing a dealer-serviced high miler, with almost 220k miles on the clock. It's a 2009 model year with 3.0 gasoline engine, priced at 7900€. Would you reckon this is a good buy and that I should expect some troublefree miles, or would that probably be a huge money pit?

The mileage is certainly getting up there, if the seller can supply a good service history then maybe it will be OK. Are you in a position to carry out your basic maintenance and small repairs? My brother has a 1996 X300 which has 340,000 Klms on the clock, had a diff replacement about 2 years ago, I drove it last month and it still feels as tight as a drum.

I wouldn't want to rely on something like that as my only car. I could trust a basic Honda Accord with over 200K, but luxury cars are complex with repairs being more frequent and more costly even when they're relatively new. If $10,000 was all I had to spend and I was dead set on a luxury sedan, I think I'd rather seek out an X308 with low mileage that'd been garage kept and set aside the rest for preventative maintenance and repairs.

Not sure your budget. Personally I'd spend a few thousand extra and go for much lower mileage and a 2010 or 2011. Fewer gremlins, the 5.0 engine.

I'd be concerned that you could easily see the few thousand difference in purchase price in just a couple of repair issues

Agree, way, way, too many miles.

Look around some more.

The price is wayyy too high for that price. Cut the price in half and then continue talks. I paid $7000 (US) for my 2009 XF V8 with 98K on the clock about 6 months ago. And that included a new installed $5k aftermarket Hertz/JBL system and $3K new aftermarket rims with tires.
