Default 5.0 engine: N/A vs. Supercharged

Hello, trying to learn the differences between the XF Premium, XF supercharged, and the XFR. Probably looking at getting at 2010-2012 model. The only thing I could find was a different compression ratio. Does the XF and XFR use the same internals (crank, rod, pistons) and are they forged? And what about the XF Premium.

Where can I find a list of engine components? If the motor is the same in the XF supercharged and XFR, I might go with the first and add the supercharger of my choice later. I know there is a bit more hp claimed but that could simply be a matter of tuning. Thanks

There are lots of posts on this topic. I have a NA 5 2010, based on other knowledgeable members comments you cannot really add anything to the NA, you are better going and buying the supercharged model.

+1. If you get a supercharged, you can get a tune to bring the HP and torque up to XFR-S power. You won't have the other XFR body mouldings, seats, etc., but the engine, brakes and suspension are the same on both higher level cars.

The big difference in supercharged and the XFR over the 5.0 is in the dynamic suspension , when you use sport and dynamic mode the car has a hair trigger and stiffer suspension. I don't think you can mod a 5.0 to get these features. XFR has racing style buckets, body mouldings and front grilles and rear valance plus 40 more horse over supercharged. Both come with a slew of standard features not on 5.0. Upgraded stereo, keyless entry, etc. My car only had two options to add if I recall. I would do a comparison of features.

It's the same engine. I wouldn't even waste time and money to buy a 5 liter and supercharge it. It would be cheaper to buy a SC car and most of your reliability will go out the door once you start messing with the engine.

So does anybody know if the crank, rods and pistons are the same?

Can't comment on the crank, but the pistons are different. On supercharged 5.0L engines there is continuous oil bath spray to the underside of the pistons, and with a very different compression ratio I suspect other internal differences. As pointed out there are other important differences regarding suspension, differential, and brakes.
