6mm or 8mm timing chains

I've been reading about various timing chain issues with the 5.0 engine across the forums and it seems like these parts have been increased in size from 6mm to 8mm sometime around 2012.
If anyone has access to the XF parts information, can you tell us at what VIN# the 8mm cam chain was introduced?
Thanks in advance.

Not really any more help but I have heard that 2013 cars after S/N B52041
came with the updated timing chains/gears.
Note that B serial numbers are "I think" XF numbers?
I have a 2014 XJR and it has a "V" serial number so I think my car does have the later system.
Your right that looking at the part numbers would be the best way to see the changes.

I've been looking into this a lot with my rebuild. While I can't tell you what VIN# they changed the chains, I can tell you that mine came with 6mm timing chains, and replacement 6mm parts are becoming very expensive. I suspect this is because a certain number were made - not of course anticipating the failure of earlier cam chain guides, and requiring dealers to replace only the chains and guides (and therefore stick to using 6mm chains/VVTs even though they had been superceded), resulting in depleted parts supplies.
However, if you're willing to replace all the timing parts: chains, crankshaft sprockets, tensioners, guides, and all 4x VVT units (total cost of parts is around $1500ish if you're lucky) then it's possible to replace all the timing gear for 8mm. Given I feel like I'm "all in" with my rebuild, this is the route I've gone down, so I've ordered 4x new VVTS and a set of chains/tensioners/guides etc for a Range Rover Sport. This significantly reduces the cost vs ordering the Jaguar equivalents, but the parts are the same.
