About to pick up a 09 xf sat, did i make the right choice
whats up guys, im new here, i just made a downpayment on a 09 xf, heres the link 2009 Jaguar XF-Series Luxury - Fred's Select Auto.
picking it up this sat. so i got a 5 year 100,000 which ever comes first, which cost me 2500, and plus taxes an tags, all out the door for 29. i cant still cancel but searching cars.com and autotrader, i think i made a good deal espcially when i compared prices to an a8, e class, and an ls460, thought about beamers but everyone has one, and theyre pretty cheap for 05-07 ones. i cant wait to pick it up. what do you guys think?

Excellent car, the price including warranty seems good for a premium luxury, not sure about for a base " luxury", depends on condition somewhat. Premium luxury had some extra cost features raising the new retail price by about 19% over base price.
I thought the real trip computer was a premium luxury option. The standard "trip computer" really isn't as it doesn't calculate anything useful for a trip. It is still a useful fuel economy and average speed computer but not really a trip computer The wheels look standard to me, 18 inch, not the optional 19 inch. Does it really have keyless entry? You walk up to the car with the key fob in your pocket and the door unlocks or do you have to press a button on the remote? All XF have keyless start, only premium luxury had genuine keyless entry, I thought.

What makes the deal so great is that you are outta door with $29,000 out of pocket with warranty.
There is an 09 XF supercharged by me with 45,000 miles on it and they want $28,000 for it. By the time you add extended warranty, taxes etc. it will be close to $35,000. So, yes you have gotten a very good deal.

K&N won't help you there.
Think about this, if it really was effective in reducing fuel consumption why wouldn't manufacturers just install it at the factory. They'd surely love a cheap solution that would bump up the fuel economy by a few points.

Folded paper air filters are used by manufacturers because they work. K&N are just marketing hype, they have no objective testing to show their product gives any advantage. In fact, they must be maintained correctly to work. Why anyone would want to go through the bother of cleaning the dirty air filter instead of just tossing it away is beyond me, even if it did offer an advantage, which it doesn't. I cannot imagine putting a " cleaned" air filter back in my expensive car in preference to a new paper one.

That's like telling someone to buy disposable clothing because you can't imagine why they would ever want to wash them. They use paper filters because they are cheap and they work. That isn't to say a good washable filter is bad or doesn't offer any advantages over paper.
I have K&N filters in my car. They work fine. I have used them in previous cars and I have been very happy with them. They are easy to clean and maintain. The ones in my XF had to be replaced so I went with K&N filters. Make sure they aren't soaked in oil and your MAF sensor will be fine. If they are then dry them out so you aren't pushing oil into the MAF sensor.

No, it is like reusing a dust mask when running a power saw. Clothes are not designed primarily to keep you clean, that is what showers are for. Reusable air filters are just a dumb idea. They do not work better, they are more expensive and they require labour to maintain them.

K&N filters have worked great for me for 3 decades. In Lexus', Audi, Jaguars, Porsche, Corvette, 300 ZX, etc and have seen increased performance & mpg. I also had dyno proven HP results on some models.
Plus for a large corporation to make HP claims in the performance industry for decades without thousands of lawsuits, says a million...
Oh yeah where's the pictures?! Congrats

I paid $40K for my 2009 XF SC six months ago and jaguar included the Jaguar Select Program, 6 years, 100K.
You are definately getting a good deal. One thing I would do however is get the VIN number and call Jaguar to look up the maintenance records...it will eliminate any surprises.
