Default adding 6x9 and an amp 2013 xf

I have searched the site trying to find out info about the base stereo system in my 2013 xf. it sounds ok it just needs a little help. thinking about a simple jl audio amp and adding 6x9 in the deck. anyone tried this or know where the factory amp is?

I'm all for someone improving over stock... but what is the stereo you have in your current 13 XF?

What is the goal by adding 6x9 speakers? are you suffering from lack of mid-range sound? Are you after simply louder, or fuller sound?

I will have to say this now, you should have factory speakers in the rear deck, adding aftermarket 6x9 will do what exactly?

The stock amplifier is in the trunk on the right hand side you would have to remove a few panels/trunk carpet

there are no speakers in the rear deck . they are all in the doors. I am trying to get more bass and a fuller sound. I really don't wont to go the sub route but may end up. I did this in my Lincoln ls and it was the perfect amount of power and bass.

Why would you want to cut up your car going with 6x9's when you would still need to add an amp to get any real benefit from them? Not to be harsh, but we've developed better ways of doing things since the 70's. Are you also wanting to add a powered EQ under the dash? And that last one was an attempt at humor from the early car stereo times.

In order to get any decent sound out of a 6x9, you'd need to power it with an amp. And a 6x9 is the rough equivalent of an 8" woofer. I'd measure the space between the back of the seat and the hump to see what kind of depth you have to work with. When you determine that, you can work backwards and figure out the biggest woofer you can use because of mounting depth. You will want to take the top mounting depth of the woofer and add 2" (3/4 for each side of mdf and about 1/2" for the pole vent). I'm ignorant as to what the spare tire well looks like in an XF without the factory sub but if you have room for the amp there, that's where I'd put it. Can you post a photo?

You might also want to explore what pre made boxes are available that will fit that space behind the seats. Then just buy a woofer or two that fit(s).

Another option, if it fits, is an Infinity 10" powered subwoofer (I can't remember the name right now). I've heard they sound pretty good and it would be an easy upgrade. Wouldn't blow you away but if your looking to just get some more lower end it should be fine and way better than the stock sub.

1000% agree. The xf has a huge trunk. 6x9 is waste if time and money to retrofit etc. You could easily get a small powered sub like mentioned in the 8 or 10" size and have plenty of room and perfect sound. IMO

thanks. the system I have doesn't have a sub anywhere. I looked in the spare tire well. I thnk the only one that has a sub now is the high end meridian system. I have looked at the compact powered subs. that would probably be pretty simple. I just don't won't to give up my trunk.

That's what I'm saying. You have a huge trunk. Go look. Really. It's huge. Plenty of room for a small 8 or 10" and you'll still have your whole trunk. I wouldn't take out spare to adapt a sub tho. What if you need spare?!?!

Get a powered sub makes it even simpler.

It does have a huge trunk. I hate to say this but the trunk is my wife's....lol...that is the most important thing to her about a car...

Can your wife even reach past the hump? I'm 6'4" and it's not easy for me to reach that far in. And I didn't mean to lose the spare like I did. I was talking about mounting the amp above it in a way you could still get to the spare below. Then put a "truck" box (because they are thin enough to fit behind the seat in a regular cab pickup) in front of the bump. That would give you maximum output without taking much space.

Or get one or two of the Infinity BassLink systems, mount to the rear seat backs, tie into the stock rear speaker outputs, connect to power and ground and you're done. No remote turn on needed.

drivers side or passenger side? This is the 2013 so it might be different since they changed the no sub woofer option in this base stereo.

Splice into both left and right ... via factory amp in trunk side panel.. drivers side.

I have decided to go with this powered sub. It should fit nicely behind the seat in the trunk Rockford Fosgate P300-10 (p30010) 300W Single 10" Amplified Subwoofer Enclosure
