Default After this last incident, we won't be buying a Jaguar again.

We've loved our '13 Jaguar XF. And, despite what people said about repairs being expensive, it hasn't been that bad (thanks to Amazon and local mechanics!). The only thing that was expensive was a wheel bearing replacement (apparently, most places will not work in wheel bearings of Jags). However, this last issue with our keyless remotes going out is a major safety issue for us. Basically, if you get the dreaded "wireless remote key not found", it can be several things (remote key battery, car batter...). BUT, if it's the keyless module, that car will not start unless it's taken to a dealership for the module to be updated or replaced. Now, even that isn't a big deal...HOWEVER, this happened to my wife in the middle of nowhere. Jaguar does NOT offer a way to manually start the car if the remotes are not working. She was stranded, and had to call a two truck to tow the car (which cost us $500 because our insurance only covers the first 20 miles). Again, this is a safety issue for us, never mind the dealership charged us $400 to update the codes on our remotes. Our neighbor has a Lexus, with keyless entry. If their remote goes out, they can manually insert a key to start the engine for emergencies (or jump it). This was a huge issue for us and we won't be buying a Jaguar again because of it.

Pre-facelift you insert the key in the slot under the steering column
Facelift there's a area marked on the lower steering column surround where you hold the key.

Yes - agreed. Happened on our Land Rover once and you just hold the dead keyfob up to the steering column where there are some markings and it fires right up
All detailed in the owners manual

Man, sounds like you spent a lot of $$$ for nothing☹️ I hate to read that… I tell my fiancé all the time to READ your owner's manual (she has a Lexus 2017’ GX460 there’s a few gems in there).

or at least send a quick post here would’ve saved you a lot of grief and the dough$$$

Yes, although in fairness it seems a very easy trap to fall into. At least OP can now , even in retrospect, feel better about his car actually being better than he assumed in this regard.

Your right and it just reinforces the value of this forum.
Just think if he had come here first?
A quick bit of searching would have revealed the answer and he would have been on his way.

I can't even calculate how much money I have saved since being a forum member.
I do think it's a bit sad how people get run off because of problems like this and the dealers charges.

Bit indicative of the times no? "I'm angry, this is someone else's fault. Of course I didn't spend the time to read the manual"

Also indicative of the times...no one reads any more. It's got to be an instructional video, eh?
