Default Ahhh! Rear Differential problem H.e.l.p!!

My 2009 57000 miles XF Supercharge 4.2L needs a new Diff. I call my local Jaguar Dealer and they said my Diff is discontinued and there is no replacement parts for it so i have to buy the new and improve diff, drive shaft axles and new bolts that they offer for $9500.00 dollars US just parts, ok I told them get it order, they told me the new rear end is not available yet WTF! and they don't know when it will. I'm going to call Jaguar Main office 1/20/14 and will let you know what they say. But can anyone tell me how can i fix my car without parts?

what do you guys do for rear diff repair?

Hey Gforce,

I'm up in Canada I have an 09 XF SC with 85,000KM and I have been noticing a rear end whine for some time now. I brought it to the shop and it is looking like the rear differential as well. If you have found anything out let me know but I think we may be stuck paying for this one.

There is a gentleman from Jaguar who is on this Forum - maybe he can help you. I forget his user name but if you search around you should find his intro. This sounds like exactly the sort of question that corporate can help you get to the bottom of. I also wonder whether there might be spares of your diff at Jag in the UK that they could ship over?

>been noticing a rear end whine

This seems to be a problem shared with the S-Types...

Suggest cruising over to that list and searching for postings there.

I think the 09 SC people should probably run out and check the diff oil level. If an oil level check can save you a $10k service it's probably a good idea.... I'll make sure to do that when I pull my car out of storage in the spring.

Sealed for life is a load of cobblers....

I have the same issue on my 2008 XJ.....rear diff whine at the moment

I'm also trying to get it covered by the aftermarket waranty although I don't hold out a lot of hope.

Remove the fill plug and check the level, do a drain and refill as requiered using the correct fluids.
This does seem to be a really common issue.....

Good luck

As opposed to $10K (!) and a long wait, what about getting one out of a wrecked Jag?

As long as the oil didn't leak out of the wrecked one, the diff should have survived just about any accident.

I tried and can't find a wreck one in the US. Do you know where I can locate a wreck one?
Jaguar USA found me a updated Diff but no axles or driveline so I told them to keep it until they get all of the parts I need ,so a wreck jag sound good to me.

As stated, going through a similar process on my XJ 2.7 with rear diff whine.

Jag offer the NEW superseded diff at around £3k + vat + fitting so around £4.5k in all I guess.

The local transmission specialist "ZF A rated" remanufacture......I'm sure you'll have someone somewhere similar?

I checked with them and they would look to remove, refurbish and replace for around £1k......big difference!

Does anyone know what was upgraded and why? It sounds like leaking is the main cause of the failure. What was changed in the new version?

Just be careful about which diff you get if secondhand, the XF had the e-diff which is not the same as the S-Type, X350 or the early X150 XK, I believe it's the same as the later X150 and the X351, but I need to check the parts catalog to be sure.

As far as I know the 2009 XF Supercharged didn't have the e-diff. If anyone knows how I can verify by looking at the diff let me know. I think 2010 XF Supercharged/XFR was the first year for the e-diff.

I seen the New updated Diff and it don't look nothing like our old one for 2009 SC 4.2L XF ours is Alum and steel the new one is all steel and shape different so it is heavier. I think there is more of a design flaw then just leaking seal. Oh Need Axles and driveline and different bolts to mount the diff
