Air Conditioning Issue

Hadn't topped up Air Con Gas at last MOT so when it started blowing hot air last week I assumed it was just a recharge that was needed.
Bought a recharge gas cylinder and nozzle and got some strange readings on the trigger gauge.
Attached trigger and the gauge read 42 psi so was just about the maximum fill pressure of 40 psi.
Started engine and the pressure fell to almost zero just 1 or 2 psi.
Attached gas bottle but pressure did not rise but gas seemed to be leaving the bottle as the bottle was cooling down. Not even 1 psi - if it was a leak I would expect pressure to rise then drop over a period of time unless there is a gross leak but then I would have though I would have heard or smelt the gas but neither
Turned off engine and trigger gauge went back up to 42 psi.
Pressed the needle valve on the high point connection and gas did come out
Does this mean there is a problem with the compressor or the evaporator? Could it simply be the fuse for the compressor?
Any similar experiences

Hi.
I recently had a new compressor on my XFR as it had seized. Similar symptoms, i.e; hot air, radiator fan not running when A/C switched on.
There is also another known fault on the compressors and that is the pressure switch, I think there is a TSB out with the details. On a V8 it means removing the compressor to replace the switch and obviously a proper recharge afterwards.
Your best bet is to go to a good A/C garage or a Jag indy garage.
Good luck.
