Default Anybody ever tried the SDD software at home?

I'm curious if anybody has used the JLR SDD software at home to troubleshoot issues with their car. Looks like this vendor sells the software/cable?

https://www.britishdiagnostics.co.uk/

I've become more and more annoyed with the service department of my local dealer, and would prefer to have the ability to diagnose issues myself at a basic level if/when they arise on my car without having to go to the dealer.

Many members have either the genuine Mongoose or a clone and run Jaguar SDD (System Driven Diagnostics) software.

Check these threads in General Tech Help forum for discussions:

I have both Mongoose and AutoEnginuity with the Jaguar enhancement but find I use SDD more often.

I have got it along with a copy mongoose cable....I have installed it but haven't used it yet. It was about £70.00 when I bought it last year on Ebay.

I think it is a good idea to have a good fault code scanner as well, rather than depending on SDD alone. SDD is fairly complex and you can do a lot of damage if you are not careful. Many people make the mistake that a given fault code means that the applicable item is faulty...this is not always the case. I have known many dealerships just trying items out of the stores, they use the "suck it and see" diagnostic method!

Default Got a new reader

In case it helps, I have also just bought a icarsoft i930 reader. I got to say it works well, it reads jaguar and range rover OBD2 and some body modules (found a faulty parking sensor)... it is up-datable online. Available in UK (£90.00) and is made in the states!

I can't tell if that "Naked truth" post/novella is saying to get or not to get the IDS/SDD.

Well. I think he is saying that it is as good as you are trained/experienced! If I thought something was wrong, I would first use an independent hand held reader..if it came up with a possible throttle pot fault, I would then quickly check it out with a multimeter. If I could not establish the fault I would then use SDD, no one piece of equipment should be trusted in its entirety... well, unless you are a main dealership with a store full of suck it sees!

Yeah - alright. That seems like a reasonable way to interpret it (and approach repairs).

Well over the years I have heard "Da machine said it was duff so we changed it"!!!! Complete and utter boll*x, you use all diagnostic tools as a guide only! How many times have you heard something like "There was a lambda sensor fault held on the ECU so we changed it", while the problem still remained? Mind you.... I don't know as much as some...but I know more than many!!!!!!

Does anyone have the info for the copy mongoose cables? 500$ for the mongoose doesn't seem logical for myself when I could engineer something cheaper. Is there a cable that's cheaper and proven to work? Additionally, where is the best place to purchase the SDD software?

Thanks

It's (confusingly) called a cable but is a computer.

How does the iCarsoft i930 (or its contemporary equivalent) compare to the SDD? Are they really different things?

Very different. i930 much easier to use but does a lot less. You may well not need the extra stuff, though!!

Yes they are in completely different leagues. Really no comparison.

hi
the smoothest journey in my 2012 xf 2.2 was yesterday on the back of a breakdown truck, the car died on the motorway after spluttering all the way , it was running well at 100kph but very bad at low speed in traffic and stall at most traffic light, the car had an electrical problem due to the electric water boost and that is disconnected, i think the battery going flat 2 or 3 times has damaged something. i have a icarsoft EU pro for diagnostic but that just gives odb codes etc, i have a nexus odb scanner that was bought on amazon for 30 euro and that give a live stream of all the data available to the odb output, a great tool for 30 euro. i have ordered the sdd software and hope that arrives very soon like next week. whilst waiting on breakdown truck i have to phone several garages to see if anybody could have a look , all garages i phoned were booked up for the next two weeks, the jaguar dealer in Dublin had the diagnostic section booked up until next April 2024.

however hopefully by next week i will have a wealth of information but no idea what it means, never to old to learn so looking forward to seeing what sdd tell me . Will keep an update if anybody is interested

I have tried two different clones. One worked very well for a few years until "something" in the code threw a tantrum.

I then got a mongoose clone which works but what the vendor (Oliveston, UK based) did not say was that any of the more advanced fault tracing modes were an (expensive) extra. They demanded a service agreement simply to tell me what I could actually expect regarding functionality of the version I had purchased! In addition their man was downright rude, so they lost a customer.

So in summary, I still have it for first line "defence", but rely on my local indie with Autologic once things get complex.

I use the SSD and Mongoose from BritishDiagnostics on a Panasonic ToughBook at home. It has work for me in assisting in diagnostics. I also use an Autel MD806 & Autel TS508. I can say the software obtained from BritishDiagnostics works. However, they are non-responsive in regards to e-mail requests or questions. If you are looking for any support at all, it will not be available. However, again, the software does work as described.
