Question Anyone have remote start?

Living in Texas, it gets "Mighty Warm" in the summer, and a remote start would be a very nice addition. Does anyone have any experience with this?

I have had my 2012 XF for two weeks now - love it!

Just fitted one on mine.
You can also have it timed!
not only are they extremely handy, they are VERY trick! Especially as the doors stay locked!
One thing i will say though.... Make sure you get a variable timed switch or one with a feedback wire..... Reason: the Jags are big engined, and can often take a bit longer to crank than smaller vehicles with this kind of alarm system (the output voltage is somewhat pulsed).

LunarWolf can you share the model or a link to what was installed? Did this require an additional key fob or did it work with the existing one?

I should have said: I got the whole alarm system which had the remote start and turbo timer as standard.
It is made to order by a guy here in England. He's a whizz!
I'm sure he can also make (or provide) a unit to add on to your existing system. His name is Nigel Cook. He's great to talk to, so will have much advice. Not sure about his contacts across the pond, but there's pretty much nothing he can't do... or work out!
Regarding the fob: Mine is obviously a separate unit, but there are options:
Let's just say you can get an add-on. You can either have a separate fob to control the extras. (note: the ecu to control remote start SHOULD also have capabilities for [1] turbo timer and [2] Anti-hijack..... which means it shouldn't be on the same keyring as the key anyway!)
or
you can get a NEW remote unit which will replace your original Jag fob AND also have the extra functions added to it. It will be programmed from the codings from the original.
The original will still work, but without the extras!

I'm no expert, but i know the above to be true. I hope it helps.

I'll get his details and post them soon.

Wimp.

C'mon. You know it's fun to burn the back of your legs and roast your hands on the steering wheel.

i would love a remote start, anyone else have experience with this? I'm new to Virginia and this heat and humidity isn't something I'm used to.

Find a local remote start dealer and ask them what your options are.

I found this utube video, (turn your volume down), of a Remote Start system for a Jag that looked pretty cool.

Anybody know what the Viper model number is or has had this system installed?

Its cold in Texas now and I want to get warm quicker!

Normally I'd be against this, but I'd suggest going to your local Best Buy. Reason being, they're 100% insured against any damage they might do. They're MECP certified and have to maintain their certification to continue installing. They warranty the entire job nationwide for life, anything goes wrong with the system it's covered.

Go in a have a chat with the installers, use your intuition and ask questions. Ask for pictures of installs they've done, any good and proud installer will document his or her work. Ask what level MECP certification they have, last I checked MECP Master Installer is the highest level and is no easy task to obtain. The test is brutal!

Just about every store will have a really good tenured installer on staff, then you'll have the newer guys that are MECP Basic that will do the menial tasks like deck installs and things like that. I believe you can still request who you'd like to do the install and have it scheduled so they are the one working on your vehicle.

If you go through with it, no matter where, take DETAILED pictures of ANY AND ALL damage your car has and be with the tech when they do a walk around/through of your car so any new scratches can be reported and fixed.

Thats all I got!

I would just buy the viper smart start instead of that remote in the video. Use your smart phone anywhere in the world to start or open or track your car. That is what I use on all my cars. I hate adding another key fob to my stock fob, looks silly and bulky.

FWIW, all of the DEI systems, which includes Viper, can be integrated into the factory remote.

^ He speaks the truth^ There is 1 dedicated wire that will trigger the RS with either pressing lock 2 or 3 times, but the range is weak on our stock remotes. This is why I say go for the Smart Start module that can be added to almost any model DEI product.
And the install of just the smart start unit is plug and play to the DEI systems.

The range is pretty bad, I have to be almost on top of my S-Type to unlock it.
