The tranny on my 2009 XF has been slipping a bit lately (scares the beejeebers out of my wife when it happens while she's driving alone), so I headed out to the garage for a routine transmission fluid check.

Many of you know what happened next, right?

No transmission dipstick or fill tube. Really, there's no way to check the fluid level or to fill it? My feeble attempt at research says that it is a sealed system and should never need maintenance (never meaning 60,000 miles).

Ahhhhh, another trip to the repair dudes who already smile every time that they see me (partly because I always bring them a dozen donuts).

Any advice on the slipping issue? The vehicle has 42K miles on it. My wife says that in normal in-town driving, twice now, the engine suddenly revs up to around 6K and smells hot. 10 - 20 seconds later, it goes back to normal.

Please don't say to replace the tranny - my wife already calls it "The Money Pit."

Have the transmission undergo the BG full service; drain, flush, conditioning and refill..That should do the trick..Jag dealers are equipped to handle this procedure. That's who does mine...About $350.00.....Well worth it IMO

You need to get it correctly diagnosed as an unknown problem ALWAYS cost big $$$$ to fix..lol Having said that the ZF 6HP26 / 6HP28 trans are fairly common, so your not necessarily locked into Jag for service of it. This is a run down of some common issues with this trans. Good luck!

Hi I have found that the ZF transmission in most modern Jaguars start to have issues to a lack of servicing, generally what happens is the oil in the transmission starts to become burnt which then starts a range of faults in the trans and unfortunately it ends with reconditioning the unit. However servicing the trans can remedy alot of these issues and massively extends there life. However is your case it sounds possibly be a torque converter fault.
Check this blog out, it explains it well!!!

The tranny was checked today and it was 2 liters low on fluid. How could that happen? He suggested just refuliing it because (and this is very interesting), the tranny filter is part of the fluid pan, and replacing the filter means also replacing the pan - $900.

Is this for real?

This is the best price around for the oem zf transmission service kits.

6 Speed oil change kit Jaguar

Check out his faq section for dropping the pan and checking the fluid level. No phone number, but my kit arrived in 2 days. This is the zf lifeguard fluid and pan. The pan is made in Germany, not in Taiwan (most of the eBay pans).
the correct torquing sequence IS important or it will leak.

Your trans oil went somewhere? There is an electrical sleeve on the back of the trans. A common place for a leak o. The zf. The kit includes this sleeve.

Hope this helps.

WTF...LOL, They don't charge like that even in Beverly Hills (Yes I do know). I did mine.
ZF trans pan was $100, 12Qts. Redline D6 full synthetic trans fluid $140. Plenty of online information on how to do it. But if ya paying $900 bring it to me and I'll do it for $700..lmassoff

My guess is it wasn't filled properly previously?
