My XF is now 9 years old, and once again, I'm getting the "low battery, start engine" message on the touchscreen. The current battery is roughly 4 years old. I know that the car sees a number of "short hops", which aren't the best for battery life, but I'm on my third battery, which seems a bit excessive.


Anybody know the average life of a battery, for an XF?

 

It seems the average life of an XF battery is between 4 and 5 years.
Some last for only 3 years, others go for 6 years and then conk, it seems to depend on your driving routine and whether or not (and how often) you connect it up to a tender/trickle charger.
For 40 years now I have always changed the battery on my car once it gets to 4 years old, I consider it to be fairly cheap preventative maintenance.

 

My 2010 5.0 needed a new battery every year. After a year old, it started slow and if sat more than 3 days, would not start without a jump. (Always replaced under CPO warranty)

My 2013 still has the factory battery in it.
