Default Buying used 2012 XF (45000 miles) - Anything I should Look for?

Hey guys,

I am in the market for a Jaguar XF. I have found a used 2012 XF 5.0L with the sport package (seats and body kit) with 73000km (45000 miles) on it. It is a Mitsubishi dealership and they are offering 3rd party warranty on it which I am planning to take.

It has a balance of 7000km Jaguar factory warranty on it. I am planning to test drive it tomorrow and make an offer. This is my first time buying a used car and I did notice many scratches which I will try and bargain the price down with. Another thing I noticed was that under the glove compartment the padding has fallen off (glue adhesive has worn out) leaving it slightly hanging in which you can see some wiring. They had another 2012 XF there and checking that shows the same thing. Is this normal? I can only see it if I bend down and look. On the drivers side same thing but not as bad.

Looking under the hood, the engine coolant was low. They said they would fix it. I guess one of my main concerns would be when will this car need servicing next. Looking at the car proof it has been serviced regularly. I do not know the maintenance schedule on the car. What would the costs be for servicing this car ?

Also another question I have is its capability in the snow. Living in Ontario Canada we can get some harsh winters. Is the sport package bumper too low for snow driving? I plan on getting winter tires on the vehicle.

Thanks and regards

Honestly unless you are completely sold on that one the situation would make me nervous. I would keep searching until you find the perfect example and then start your negotiation. Do they have the service history?

I looked for 6 months before I bought my car, and ended up buying it from a dealership halfway across the country

Yeah I feel like I would love more time to buy my car but unfortunately I am starting work in less than 2 weeks and I want a vehicle to drive there. If I cannot get a good deal on the vehicle I will have to take one of my parents cars for time being.

Just today, another posting of a 2012 XF same package but more features less KM and cheaper. I am guessing there is an accident on the car but I have to go see. I was wondering what should I look for when seeing these cars?

I remember reading for the XFR there is an issue when making a 90 degree turn where you feel a bump or something? Would the same apply for the XF?

Buy once cry once, definitely dont want to rush into a purchase on these...there have been a few stinkers bought by forum members that have led to nightmares.

Just do your research, make sure there is a full service history available with the car, look for coolant leaking around the water pump, ask if the water pump has been replaced under warranty. When you drive the car, if there are any issues with the gear selector or if you feel vibrations coming from the rear of the drivetrain you probably want to walk away. Otherwise they are very solid cars if well-taken care of.

You're looking at the newer model years so that is helpful already, most of the major stuff seemed to come up on the 08-09s

I am now truly in the Jaguar family!

I just came back from a Jaguar Dealership and bought a 2012 Jaguar XF. I took the Jaguar CPO (6yr 160000km) warranty and have about 2000km remaining on its existing Platinum warranty service. They offered me a great deal as well as very low finance rate. The car fully serviced and regularly maintained at Jaguar. I am pretty confident in the vehicle and for a first car I feel I have peace of mind.

Clean car proof and no issues with the padding under the glove compartment.
Car drives smooth and powerful.
I am so excited!
