Car control box

Car control box
I have a Jaguar 2.7 diesel XF Prem lux 2008 UK Spec.
I have a offside front indicator problem sometimes it works more often not and I've had an auto electrician look at it, but he was not familiar with Jaguar so all he could do was check the loom, the problem seems to be with the car control box. My questions are:
1. Is there more than one control box for the indicators? (I know some cars have a second box near the steering wheel.)
2. Are the boxes programmed to the individual car?
3. If I was able to source a second hand part would it work in my car or would it be better to get my one repaired?
