So I checked the ECM version. I'm on 118.5 P12. Contacted the dealer and master tech there, they claim that is the last good version and the one after that, I'm assuming ver. 119, screwed up the 09's.

if you still get the P0411 code with the new software most likey the Control valve has failed. again you have warrenty the dealer will find the problem.

Its been 2 months seens i did a P0411 and the last one i repaired(2010 4.2 XF) had a failed SAI control valve. doesn't hold vacuum to allow the air pump to flow air into the exhaust system on start ups below 56 degrees F.

That valve was replaced on my car and the engine threw the code right away!

The CEL cycles on and off, apparently at random. It takes about two weeks of driving to cycle on and then off again. Most often the CEL goes on some minutes after start up. I do not see any temperature correlation but my car is in a heated garage at both ends but below 56F in each case (50F or sometimes less).

talking to Jaguar all week. Have 2 XF 1 09 4.2L and 1 2010 4.2L. are new computer software SDD is flashing some 2010 with 2009 software and also 2009 are getting 2010 software. this is a programing problem as the lastest testing i'm doing. SRI doesn't do key cycles, its all about air and coolant temp when the system turns on. and the SRI system has its own MAP sensor to moniter if the pump is working. also the upstream O2 sensor make sure the system works. SRI system only runs no more them 30sec once its turned on. jaguar has told me that there's a new updated software beign release in two weeks from now.

remind any changes with the vehicals emission system has go to throw EPA and singed off. so its taking alot of time to fix this problem.

funny thing is not every XF 4.2L has this problem. i've seen over 10 xf's with over 30k miles and they have no problems. but this is a software problem and jaguar is doing everything to fix it.

hope thats a good heads up for everyone

Thanks for the heads up .

Mine turned on again today, even though the ambient temp in the garage was 15C. I really hope the next software fix does it. Of course the EPA does it's best to be a beaurocratic nightmare, from this, to water based paints, to water based tire sealant/lubricant used for mounting tires. Really!?

well this past thursday i work with Jaguar on a 2010 XF with P0411. They sent me a test software/the fix for the p0411. the XF was release back to the customer. we will know if this will work or not soon.

again the SRI system works fine just the ECM thinks its not. its software problem and Jaguar is doing its best to fix it. vehical is safe to drive.

Does this test fix apply for the 09's as well?

Thanks for keeping us updated.

Latest software update has been delayed, but then they called my tech back and told him he could fix p0411 with patch 8. I'm assuming v119 since I was on v118.5 p12 before. Installed, (fingers crossed)-that it doesn't come back.

So I just started to get this P0411 code randomly over the past two days. Mine is an 09 with a build date of late 2008.

I've had the car since Jan 2013 without this issue appearing so I'd be surprised if the software reflash hadn't happened prior to me owning the vehicle.

The code has been thrown for the past two days in the exact same circumstance. Leaving work, car parked sitting outside all day and code appears within 30 seconds of starting the engine with no noticeable hesitation at all. Car drives like normal. I've cleared the codes both times and they do not reappear while driving nor in the morning after driving off from my garage. Seems pretty weird and like a software issue.

Anyone have this occur recently? Thanks.

Edit - found a technical service bulletin that deals with the issue - JTB001892. Guess I'll have to take it in and see if my car has had the software reflashed per the bulletin.

So the software reflash didn't sort the issue. Car is going back to the dealers next week. Doing a bit of research online leads me to believe it's either vacuum line/air pump/air valve related. Hopefully, for the warranty company's sake, the dealer can get to the root of the problem without having to throw too many parts at it.

I just went thru this on my 09, it was a broken vacuum hose. It was very easy to find because there's only a few vacuum hoses on the engine. Follow each one its entirety, if its broken you’ll find it.

Perfect. Thanks for the info. I'll point the dealer in this direction.

Were you getting the P0411 basically once daily upon cold startup?

Yes, I had a constant p0411 CEL. I would reset the codes but would come back after every cold start. Another tell tale of a vacuum leak that I should have noticed was how rough the engine ran when first started and cold. It would run so bad son some start ups ( depending on ambient temp) it would also trigger a misfire code on every cylinder.
I finally just spent 5 minutes to look for the problem, found it and had it fixed in about a minute. Once I found the broken hard vacuum line, I simply spliced it with a 3 inch piece of hose I had in my garage.

dealer has notified me that they replaced a broken vacuum line that goes from the solenoid to the SAI pump and are checking to see if anything else is wrong. What you describe though is exactly what I've been experiencing. Hopefully the vacuum line is all that's needed to sort the problem. Thanks for your input.
