Default Changing wheels/tires

Hi all

I've got a 2011 xf base and now have the 18" cygnus wheels. while they're just fine, looking to upgrade the look with some fresh rims.

wondering about getting some oem 20" wheels. they are 8.5 front 9.5 rear and the offset is 49 front 26 rear. just wanna be sure they'd fit??

also, silly questions but with the tpms sensors, could you remove them from my existing wheels and place in the new rims? or do you have to buy new tpms sensors for those?

lastly my tires are great they have lot of tread life left, could you move the tires around an 18" and put around the new 20"s? Or do you have to buy new tires because its more material required?? ty!

Yes TPMS sensors can be swapped. But if your trying to stick with OEM wheels you might want to stick with XF wheels. The offsets you describe are for a XK or even a F Type. They would work it just depends on how aggressive you want the rear to be. The fronts are fine. That rear offset is gonna push your wheels to just outside of the wheels well.

good to know those sensors can be swapped! - was worried they were specific to the wheel, shows how much i know about cars, i guess.]

i do want to stick with oem wheels, i prefer stock as opposed to aftermarket. funny you say that about the offsets, the ones i were looking at were taken off an XK. I like the style a lot, they're the 20" selenas. i think i've actually seen an XF with selenas, and thought they looked great.

i wouldn't mind an aggressive rear, though maybe worth looking into other 19"/20" styles. can anyone recommend their / show pictures / of their rims?

You can get 20inch staggered Selenas on the XF too. The front ones are as you describe. But rear offset is I think something in the 60s. I have them on my 2010 XF SC. I'll look up specs tonight and post

When I was looking to replace a wheel I noticed that the XK had the same Selena wheels but with very different rear offset

And you will definitely need new tyres. 18inch won't go around a 20inch wheel. I'll post the sizes tonight

I would suggest using the existing tpms or buy jag ones. Unfortunately aftermarket ones are v unreliable with the Jag system...

Do you live in snow areas? If so you may want to keep the 18s for winter use as the 20s don't like pot holes...

oh i see, well ideally i could buy selenas with the xf's rear offset. hmm i'll have to look for new tires as well.. i think i currently have the contipro contact.

good i can keep my tpms, that's probably the easiest thing, and they've worked well for me thus far (knock on wood)

live in central VA, so not quite as snow-prone as boston, but i guess not arizona either! luckily i have a jeep so worst comes to worst i can drive that! (as much as i prefer the jag)

Just keep in mind going to 20 inch wheels will reduce ride quality.

right, i wonder how noticeable the difference might be. wish there was some way i could tell without actually replacing the rims..

maybe 19" might be a good compromise btwn style and ride quality? i do wonder about where i should buy the new rims.. i don't want to pay top dollar at dealership, on the other hand, want to be careful online as i want somewhere with a return policy just in case there's a problem!

If you're going to buy from a tire shop, they may have or can mount a set for you to drive and find out. If you're going to end up spending a couple thousand, it's worth asking.

Sorry for the delay - I looked up the Selena's for the XF. Mine are 20inch Selena wheels. 8.5" front. 9.5" rear. Offsets 49mm front and 66mm rear for staggered setup. So while front wheels are interchangeable with XK, the rears appear not to be.

For tyre sizes, you would look for 255/35-20 Front Tire Size; 285/30-20 Rear Tire Size

I think the ride is still excellent with the 20inch - but as mentioned if you hit a pothole it's much more likely to do damage to the wheel (and the OEM wheels seem prone to bending).

Why not look at aftermarket? OEM wheels are crazy expensive in comparison? Think 19inch would still look great and give you better rim protection. See other threads for the Rohana RF2 which several of us are running and look terrific.

What he said...

Nothing more to add to that statement. Aftermarket's a great idea. Also, I've bought my last 2 full sets of wheels/tires from Tirerack, and it was definitely the way to go. They have a pretty wide variety of wheels/tires and as you look at them, they overlay the image onto a mockup of your car, so you can get a good idea of how they'll look. Then they arrive mounted, balanced and with the tpms sensors mounted so all you have to do is bolt them on.

I mean, if you can get a tire shop to be inexpensive and if they'd let you try on some loaner wheels (which honestly would be completely dependent on whether they have some already there/mounted), then it may be worth it to go that way. But I'd definitely recommend Tirerack after my experiences.

really helpful posts, guys! i looked up pictures of the rohana rf2 and think they look great. as long as they fit, that's all good! i definitely wouldn't want to buy oem rims that were made for another model! I'm very glad with your help to discover that.

i'm going to explore my local tire shops, shop around, and see what each offers. ideally, i could buy tires and rims at the same place. with any luck i hope to have a similar experience to yours with tire rack, n8ertot..
