Clicking Noise From Gear Selector

Clicking Noise From Gear Selector
I am getting a clicking noise from the area of the rotary gear selector when pressing and releasing the brake when stationary and in Park or Neutral on my 2014 XF with 20K miles.
I believe it is caused my a solenoid that locks the rotary gear selector and only allows it to rotated when the car is not moving - it can be pretty loud and although everything is working fine it's really annoying.
My question is has anybody taken apart the gear selector unit to repair the solenoid or is the case that the complete gear selector unit needs to be replaced - I am guessing there must be some noise dampening material (sponge\foam) in there to absorb the clicking noise.
