Continental Tires Suck!!

This is the second Jaguar that came from the factory with these suck-azz Continental Conti-procontact tires...The first car was an 03 X-type and 2 out of the five tires were out of round and needed to be replaced after the 1st 1000 miles..These on the XF are really no better..they are such that if one of the tires is on the front, it causes the car to pull to the right..I had the alignment checked twice and ajusted until the tech decided to put the fronts to the rear..and now it tracks straight at least...But the problem is, I'll never be able to rotate the tires again or I'll have a repeat problem again...
Now I can't wait for these POS tires to wear out enough to justify putting a nice set of Michelins on like I had to do eventually with the X...
Some people may love these Continentals..
I happen to have two bad experiences in a row with them and wonder if Jaguar is getting a cut-rate deal on some crappy tires.

Read the reviews on TireRack - you're definitely not the only person who thinks that! They came on our Land Rover LR4 as well - when we had to replace them earlier this year I found a new (<1000 miles) set of 4 LR4 Conti tyres with the OEM alloy wheels in perfect condition on ebay for around $800 - but the reviews were so bad that I passed and went Pirelli Scorpion - which cost more for just the tyres...

Kinda have to agree with that statement I'm afraid.
I've used Continental Contact Sport 2 and 3's for years, either these or Bridgestone Potenza RE050 or Pirelli P Zero's on a wide variety of cars and never had any issues, just tyres that perform well.
Perhaps its been a bad batch or maybe it just isn't suited to the car, that happens, although tyre choices like fuels / oils and much more are subjective

I don't care how your experiences has been...I'm just venting on how my experiences has been with Continental and I did mention clearly as to which model..so don't knit pick the statement...I am mentioning it here not to win you over to my opinion, but it is still MY Opinion and would appreciate if everyone would respect that...
If you had a great experience and you think your new tires are the answer to rubber on the road..then all the power to ya...and Good luck.

DPK - You made a broad, sweeping statement that basically read ( as per the title ) that Continental tyres suck.
You go on to initially say "Some people may love these Continentals.." Well I would be one that certainly like them and have been impressed with them when I've used them in the past, thats just my opinion.
You made a post, that generally invites comment from the members, as has been done......
Ttboonie replies saying that you made a sweeping & broad generalisation against Continental tyres and that he's had a positive experience with them, to which I agreed.
You then come back to say that "you don't care about anyone else's experience" and that you're "just venting" then go on to ask that everyone respect your opinions.
It is your opinion and I'm sure everyone does respect that, similarly you should respect others opinions.
You may want to examine your tone and attitude when asking for respect on your opinions or the exact reverse may be the case.
Note - If you'd like me to alter the thread title slightly for you I'd be happy to oblige DPK
Best
Jim

My car was delivered from the factory with ContiProContacts. I have been very happy with them and will tell you they are by far the best all season tire I've ever had, an experience that includes every brand mentioned. They have an amazing amount of grip for an all season, are excellent in the wet and pretty good on ice and snow. I've had none of the mentioned issues in nearly 30,000 miles so far. They are for me a better choice than the Dunlop summer tires many of the supercharged models come with, frequently reviled by those owners. LOL, I think even in the dust bowl they pick nits (insect eggs) and not "knits." Jim, thank you for your patient and reasoned reply.

I agree completely with this - and that's why I don't put too much faith in tire tests where they are using a much different ca and different tire size from mine. Of course, that begs the question of how in the world are you supposed to be able to determine which tires will work best in your particular car. While this is not foolproof by any means, most OEM tires have been specifically chosen by the car manufacturer with a bit more than just cost per tire in mind... However, those of us with a few more miles on us tend to have developed an affinity for a particular brand or brands over the years, and if you're replacing worn tires with new, the new almost always seem like a miraculous improvement over the old - less noise, better ride comfort, better traction. In any event, because of this admitted bias, I'm very unlikely to ever try a Kumho or such brand on my cars, even if they get the best test rating in history. Just my two cents.

And hey neo... mixing brands front and back may be no big deal, may be really bad (such as the X type which is all wheel drive). You won't know until you know. But you never, never want to mix them on the same axle. If it was my car I'd get rid of that mix and match pair on the rear sooner rather than later.
I have some Nitto's on an Alfa Romeo Milano and they pretty darn good tires. But I will replace them next year. They aren't worn, but they are about ... maybe ... 7 years old. And that is another point about tires. They age and get hard and cracked, and they can blow out instantly. 5 years is about all I am willing to run them but the Nitto's on the Alfa have been a rare exception.

I got my car and it has mismatched tires which annoys me to no end. the front 2 are conti procontacts, the back two are, well one is a Nexen and the other is a Nitto. I'm probably gonna wait unit maybe the end of Feb or beginning of Mar. and buy the Conti extreme contact DW tires.

When I got my X, it had Conti ProContacts all around. I didn't really like or dislike them, but when it came time to replace them I ordered a full set of Conti ExtremeContact DWS at the recommendation of many members and must say I am quite impressed. They are very quiet and do well in all weather conditions here in Upstate NY, plus they show very little wear after over a year's use. They're a little pricey but well worth it in my opinion.
On a side note, was DPK having a bad day or what? Wow...

Yes, my S-Type 4.2l came with Conti ExtremeContact DWS and in the couple of inches of snow we've had around here they seem fine. I would be happy to recommend them to anyone who needs all season tires and doesn't want the hastle of owing snow tires.
However, feeling the rear-end squirm around v.s., the solid feel of the X-Type I traded for the S was a little weird, but just the same, it was satisfactory.

Jaguar - it's not an automobile, it's a Motorcar
