Default Cost of fixing the dashboard leather '10 XFR

Hi guys. After spending some time on this forum, reading about XFR, I was very excited and decided to buy one. I won an ebay auction. The price and the condition of the car was right. But before I was ready to arrange the shipping to New York, I was told that "it has wrinkles on the dashboard". I am very concerned about the cost of fixing it. As I understand it is a common problem with XFR. Anyone can give me an idea of how much I would have to spend and is there a decent shop (preferably in Brooklyn)? Thank you so much for your help!

That looks pretty bad. Over 3000 dollars for a new dash. Have an upholstery shop lift and reglue / staple
Search around - lots of posts on this...

as mentioned above. Jag will charge $3k++ for a new dash.

Take it to an upholstery shop and they can re-glue it for you

Nova, buy the factory new one, get it installed, take your old one to and shop and have it fixed and sell it to the next guy to make most of your money back.

If you're under the Takata airbag recall your dash will need to come off for the fix, that would be a good time to approach Jag since the dash has to come off anyways according to the service manual.

Has anyone tried this? My XFR is up for the recall, and the dash is almost same as above. It would be nice to be replaced while under recall, and the dash was lets say damaged during install?

Holy crap! That is an expensive part to replace!

Is there anything preventative I can do so this doesn't happen to my car? (Apart from the obvious like not parking in the sun, putting a sun shade up)

A Jag tech I spoke to said it was less direct sun but overall temperature in the cabin (which of course could be caused by direct sun) so he recommended cracking the sun roof open to tilt when in your super hot garage. Seems to be something affecting cars that live predominantly in the hotter climates...Castle Bromwich in Birmingham UK where they build them isn't at high risk there ;-)

I initially put Aerospace 303 Protectant on the dash and the tops of the door cards, plus a factory sunshade when parked in the sun, and never had a problem.
After 18 months of searching I eventually found a RHD dashmat which fitted quite well and looked perfectly OK, and left it on throughout the summer months.

I live in Atlanta (deep South in the U.S. for those not familiar), and sadly, have left my car outdoors for most of the past 2.5 years (my garage is currently my workshop), but haven't noticed any wrinkling or any other signs of leather wear, yet. One thing I did when I first bought the car was work in Mink Oil throughout the leather. I always put it on my soccer cleats, leather jackets, etc., to condition them, protect from UV, and add some water resistance, and it's always worked like a charm for me.
