Difference between 2009 XFR and XF S/C
Hello, all,
Does anyone know the full list of differences between 2009 4.2 XFR and 2009 4.2 Supercharged? I was told in a dealership that they have the same engine which just "tuned differently" (pulley, ECU?). Is it true?
What else? Suspension, exhaust system?
Thank you!
Artem.

Artem -
There was no 2009 XFR. The XFR was introduced in 2010, when the line moved to the 5.0 engine.
Of the top of my head the 2009 XF-SC was good for around 410 hp while the 2010 SC around 480 hp and the XFR 510 hp. However, multiple real world tests have shown the 2010 XF-SC and 2010 XFR to have identical performance numbers (at least in one off runs), so many suspect that the horsepower figures are a marketing ploy.
Other 2010 differences between the XFR and XF-SC are upgraded brakes, altered grill with larger secondary air intakes, hood louvres (standard on later model year XF-SCs though), sport seats for driver and passenger, rear diffuser, and a sort of 'ground effects' styling (I'm not sure if XF-SCs have brake coolers... XFRs do). Furthermore, a lot of the options available on the XF-SC come standard on the XFR, such as rear window sunblind, split folding rear seats, uprated sound system, rear lip spoiler, blind spot monitoring etc. About the only option on a XFR is the adaptive cruise control and heated front windshield (on later model years).
Hope that helps...
Cheers,
- Will

Thank you very much, Will.
I've got 2009 4.2 SC with 410 HP. Strange that the dealer said XFR had the same engine. He probably got it confused with 2010 SC as you say.
So I've got a totally different engine, sigh. But what about other things such as adaptive dynamics or electronic differential? Do you know if they appeared on XFR or SCs had them too?
As for the "softer" options, I looked at a bunch of 2009 SCs and I never saw ones without blind spot monitoring, premium sound system, heated/cooled seats etc. I was told they all were standard even on 2009 SC. All 3 dealers said (not sure if I trust them any more?) that adaptive cruise control was pretty much the only option on 2009 SC - everything else came standard.
I was thinking about putting a custom exhaust, replacing the supercharger pulley, doing the ECU stuff etc. I really don't know what I'm talking about here, and whether all this can squeeze out 30-40 HP out of my engine, but it seems like I got used to 410 HP pretty quickly... It's an unbelievable car to drive as it is, but maybe it's my sport bike past talking... Any advice/opinion in regards to this would also be highly appreciated.
Thanks!

FYI the 2009 4.2L SC has 420bhp.
The electronic diff came in both the XFR and the 2010+ XF Supercharged (not the 2009 SC).
You car correct that most options come standard on the SC. Adaptive cruise and heated steering wheel are the only options.
The Mina exhaust is a great upgrade. Supercharger pulley swaps are a pain. The stock pulley is hard to pull off without damaging it. You might not want to swap the SC pulley unless you are outside of your warranty. The 4.2L motor has a lot of upgrade options since it's been around for a while in other Jaguars. Here are a few sites:
http://eurotoysltd.com/catalog/index...Path=49_62_559
http://www.minagallery.com/jagxp/XFmainoptionpage.htm
http://www.powerhouseautomotive.co.u...-upgrades.html
Read through the S-type R and XKR (4.2L SC) performance upgrade threads and you can get a lot of valuable info on 4.2L SC upgrades.

Thank you! Yes, I plan to wait until I'm out of warranty for pulley and ECU (btw, is ECU re-programming worth it?). But I want to put something with more growl right now, and I was told at the dealership replacing mufflers shouldn't affect the warranty (but I should be much more careful with replacing the central part, for example).
I've also noticed you have custom air filters - K&N Panel Filters? What's the reason to install those?
Thanks!

Hey, Blackcoog, any chance you could help me out on the K&N filters? I look at their website - seems like they don't have air filters for 4.2 Supercharged, only for 4.2 regular. Do they fit? Do I need 1 or 2?
I've also heard there are some problems with "misfiring" (don't know what that means) and/or cold start with K&N on 4.2SC - is yours OK?
Is it worth it in general, did you notice any difference?

The main issue with K&N filters is too much oil. I'd suggest getting the filter cleaning kit as well. Clean the filters with water and the cleaning solution. Let them dry and use a small amount of oil on it. Oil in the intake system can cause issue with the MAFs. Mine has been fine but I would keep your old filters in case you run into an issue. The techs on here said that the stock filters are flow matched, which is odd because the MAFs should be reading the air flow and the flow from either side shouldn't matter.
K&N's site does list them but they are cheaper here:
You need 2 filters.
As far as noticing a difference. It's hard to say. It is just a air filter. At most it will flow a bit better and give you a bit more hp all around.
