Difference between the 2010 and 2012 xfr
Hi all. My first post. I sold my Impreza yesterday and am looking to buy an xfr. I have driven the 2010 and loved it but a good 2012 version has caught my eye. What are the main differences between them? I note the interior looks different too?
Are there any options worth having? I will do a search for common faults. Many thanks

2010 is a 6 speed, 2012 will be either a 6 speed or an 8 speed, the 2012 XFR kept the 6 speed for about 9 months before changing over to the 8 speed, so a late 2012 will be an 8 speed.
Better fuel economy with the 8 speed, but some argue it's too busy for the character of the car and the 6 speed is better suited.
Engine is identical, both 510 PS (503 bhp), same suspension, same seats.
Different front and rear lights, different shape side/fender "gills", slightly different centre console set-up, different steering wheel, different centre screen, slightly improved ICE/satnav, different sound system I think (Meridian vs B&W).
To most the 2012 looks a little better than the 2010 both inside and out.

OzXFR is spot on - in general the 2012 is Better !
Differences I can find (although i just replaced a 2010 XF with a 2012 XFR)
Exterior, Front look and Grille Styling, Side molding - rear trunk, overall slicker
Headlights: Running LED, and headlights
Interior : Steering wheel is thinner, Infotainment System is way different and better, magic glove button replaced (although I loved the old one), Front cup holder, Steering wheel feel, buttons is different. W. Bowers
I have early 2012 6 speed.
On Gas Mileage I think it is better here is why, on my 2010 XF I could get 25 on hwy by cruising and not accelerating hard - typical I used to average 22 but on my 2012 XFR I somehow got over 27+Mph on one trip (50 miles) by cruising I expect to get 19-20 on a regular basis. Therefore, I would say between 2010 XFR and new 2012+ XFR you will automatically get better gas mileage - not enough to save a lot.

Forgot to add - the 2010 has a body coloured rear valance (the bit under the rear bumper) and no diffuser, the 2012 has a gloss black diffuser which looks way better.
Also maybe different shape "R" badges, round vs square, and the 2012 has an R badge on the grill but the 2010 doesn't. And different shape and bigger front bumper "nostrils".

Pretty much all XFRs came fully loaded from the factory, with very few missing options.
The few useful/desirable ones I can think of that some may not have are:
- reversing camera (with front parking sensors as well)
- sunroof
- suede headliner (called something else - not alcantra - in Jaguar speak).
Other uncommon and IMHO not particularly desirable or useful options are:
- garage door opener
- adaptive cruise control
- TV (only works when not moving).
I have all of these on my XFR except for the garage door opener and adaptive cruise.

My interior is the "cream", actual name Ivory, and I love it!
I've never had a problem with kids or passengers marking it, and any marks clean off easily. Contrasts nicely with the Kyanite (blue) paint and helps give the interior a light and airy feel.
I've had the XFR for two years now but hardly driven it at all the last six months, trying to sell it.
Best car I have ever driven let alone owned, smooth comfortable cruiser when you want then road eating bruiser when the mood takes you.
Almost faultless, just a couple of very minor niggles, has cost me nothing in repairs or maintenance other than the usual servicing, tyres and brakes.

I'm not sure I'd put too much stock in one journey. Same engine, same transmission, same tune, same weight etc. hard to imagine there is a real difference in fuel economy.
In general I'd agree that the 2012 onwards have better exterior styling around the lights and better infotainment. aside from that they are basically the same car underneath. So if 2012 is in your budget that's great. But if not (or you want to save 2 years of depreciation) the 2010 is terrific too

91 octane here in California. To put it into perspective, I travel about 8 miles to work, and it takes me between 45 and 60 minutes. Stop and go is mostly just stop. I no longer drive the XF-R to work, I have a leased Chevy Spark EV (can't beat a $50 per month lease). I was spending over $150 a month in gas, now I spend less than that for the lease AND the fuel (electricity).

on another note im looking at a pearlescent blue one tom. But i was told it went 20k between services but only 1 year in time. The dealer siad they self regulate service intervals but i still dont think this answers the question properly. 20k seems a long time on a car that has 52k on the clock. It has full msin dealer history.
should i let it put me off.

does anyone run theirs on normal 95 RON unleaded? Or is it necessary to run 99RON super?

The recommended service interval is 16,000 miles (26,000 km) or 12 months, whichever comes first, so if it was serviced every 20,000 km then not a problem but if it was 20,000 miles then it was left a little long, but unlikely it caused any problems.
Most here like to change the engine oil between scheduled services, so every six months or roughly 8,000 miles. Not essential but for peace of mind.

Great looking car! The red is very striking with the black out.
