Default Eco Mode not Available?

Hi all, quick question about Eco mode (start/stop).

I recently picked up a 2014 5.0 Supercharged, and I noticed that Eco Mode never came on. It doesn't bother me since I would likely turn it off all anyway, but I hit the button one day to activate it just to make sure it worked, and I got a message saying it wasn't available. I tried again a few times with similar results.

Not really a big deal since I won't use it, but I just wanted to be sure that's not a symptom of a bigger issue? I believe the batteries are relatively new.

Thanks for the info!

The culprit here us either the small ECO battery being dead, or a previous owner having disconnected it. In either case, you win because you are rid of the annoying stop/start.
There is absolutely no effect on any other part of the car or its performance, now or in the future. An enormous number of owners (myself included) have purposely disconnected the start/stop battery, or in later cars without the secondary battery, disconnected the start/stop wiring….with no issues at all. So you can sleep soundly.

Don't ignore it. Mine gave me that message and a few days later the battery failed to charge, lost my alternator, had to get towed.

Well the big battery can also effect this as I just found out?
My main battery lasted 10 years and I finally replaced it. My stop/start battery had failed several years earlier and when I replaced it the SS still did not work. I don't like the system at all as it makes my XJ feel cheap and rough.

BUT wonder of wonders when I did finally replace that ancient main battery now the SS works perfectly!
Surprised about that to.

Are you referring to the message about the stop-start system being unavailable? The fact that the ECO system is not working is not directly related to a failed main battery - but, and I suppose this is what you mean, it might indicate that NO charging is taking place. If that were the case, other warning messages would appear (“battery not charging”, for example).

It is far more likely that the ECO system has been purposely disconnected, in which case there are no further effects at all.
